Three Generations of Family Bond Thru Shared Dahn Yoga Experiences. Healing Family Workshop: Free Workshops Nationwide January 16-21, 2006

Korean-based program helping US families develop stronger bonds. Dahn Yoga is offering free Healing Family Workshops this week.

Honululu, Hawaii (PRWEB) January 18, 2006

This week three generations of the Twomey family will be sharing a unique bond in Honululu, Hawaii. Lani Twomey and her father, Jack Oberholzer, will be taking a Dahn Yoga class taught by Lani’s 21 year old son, Kevin Twomey. Kevin has been a Dahn practitioner for two years and has credited the program with helping him turn his life around and follow a spiritual path designed to promote kindness and understanding.

“Our family has become much closer since we began practicing the healing and exercise principles taught at our local Dahn center” said Kevin. Dahn Yoga (sometimes referred to as Dahn Hak or Dahnhak) began as an ancient Korean training program to educate the population on how to develop both the mind and the body. “Dahn” means energy, vitality, and origin of life, and "Hak" means study, philosophy, and theory. The improved connection with his mother, says Twomey, is rooted in his new found ability to look at himself, accept responsibility for his actions and reach out in a more loving way to his family. “Our relationship has become a healing relationship,” he said.

Kevin’s mother said she’s watched her son shed some former bad lifestyle habits and become much more responsible. “I see the goodness in what he is doing through Dahn and we communicate now on more of an adult to adult level rather than adult to child,” said Lani. “There has also been a bit of a role reversal where he is leading me in the Dahn programs and I am learning from him, which has led to a newly shared respect for one another,” she noted.

The family is the fundamental building block of society, and vibrant and strong families ensure the dynamism and strength of society. That is the belief of The Healing Family Movement, which is dedicated to providing the support, tools and resources to empower families and help create a healthier, more peaceful culture. Dahn Yoga Centers throughout the country are sponsoring Healing Family workshops and offer a Healing Family Web site for the online community (http://www. healingfamily. org (http://www. healingfamily. org)). Anyone can call in advance (877-HSP-YOGA) and attend a free Healing Family Workshop at one of the 170 Dahn Yoga centers nationwide during the third week in January.

The workshop program includes:

1) Introductory discussion: What is a Healing Family Movement? / Why heal the family? / Healing society by healing families / Healing Family tools that addresses issues of health, relationships, and life purpose

2) A principle of Health (Su-Seung-Hwa-Kang: Water up, Fire down)

3) A short course in practicing acupressure (a technique that press and stimulate specific acupuncture points to activate and generate energy), and massage as family health management skills

4) Sharing healing family stories (living examples of how healing begins with the basic unit of society, the family)

Families that enjoy exercise together not only forge strong relationships, their health also improved. “I’ve been doing Dahn Yoga for nearly two years and recently got my mother-in-law involved,” said Karen Krueger of Libertyville, Illinois. “My mother-in-law has gained strength and agility to help her with her balance,” she noted. Krueger herself has lost more than 80 pounds in the last 19 months and attributes that success to the practices she learned at her neighborhood Dahn center.

Dahn Yoga is a holistic program that promotes a healthy body, a healthy family, a healthy community and a healthy world. Additional information on the program offerings are available on the Internet at www. dahnyoga. com.
