America’s Walk for Diabetes in Providence Announced/Registration Open

PROVIDENCE, RI (PRWEB) March 29, 2006

Sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, America’s Walk for Diabetes will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Roger Williams Park. Check in is at 9AM and the Walk begins at the Temple of Music at 10AM. America’s Walk for Diabetes is the signature fundraising and awareness event of the American Diabetes Association.

Registration is now open for the Walk. For more information on how to sign up as a walker, sponsor, or volunteer or to make a donation, please visit us on the web at www. diabetes. org/walk (http://www. diabetes. org/walk) or call the American Diabetes Association at 401-351-0498. “Diabetes is a devastating disease that touches us all,” said Jack Hillman, Providence Walk Committee Chair. “Young, old, men, women and children from every walk of life are affected by this serious disease.”

Money raised from the walk supports the mission of the American Diabetes Association: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The American Diabetes Association funds over 23 million dollars in research in New England.

To date, more than 20.8 million Americans—including 90,000 in Rhode Island have diabetes. Diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in America, killing more people than AIDS or breast cancer. More than 213,000 Americans each year will die from its complications.
