Former Child Star Produces Urban Family TV Drama

Former Child Star Produces Urban Family TV Drama

Shavar Ross, best known for his role as "Dudley", Gary Coleman's best friend on the hit 1980's television show "Diff'rent Strokes" announces the first of a new urban family drama series, "A Taste of Us", a 35-minute short film shot in the new digital 24p technology.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2004

Shavar Ross, best known for his role as "Dudley", Gary Coleman's best friend on the hit 1980's television show "Diff'rent Strokes" announces the first of a new urban family drama series, "A Taste of Us", a 35-minute short film shot in the new digital 24p technology. "We are excited about the release of this new family television drama", said Ross, president and founder of Tri-Seven Entertainment, a new television and film production company which produces cutting-edge morality-based projects for mostly urban audiences.

"The film takes place in the 60's segregated south and is a surreal drama about a small town African-American minister who comes together with his dysfunctional family on Thanksgiving Day. The Reverend realizes, seemingly too late, how important his family really means to him", said Ross, a former actor as well as pastor. "The movie is about putting your family first, before work or career", explained Ross.

The film, written, directed and edited by Ross, was shot on a small budget in south central Los Angeles. "I use the mask of the 1960's to deal with present-day social issues urban families face such as father-son relationships, health related issues and even homosexuality all in the first episode", proclaimed Ross. In addition to film festival entries, Ross is trying to pitch "A Taste of Us" as a direct-to-video series in the Urban/Christian retail markets. "I'd like to see more positive programming out there that portray African-Americans in a non-stereotypical light. People and some industry folks are already expressing interest our film, we just need a distributor who can get it out there to the people", said Ross.

Ross now 33, has appeared in numerous television shows throughout his twenty year career as an actor, including, such hit shows as "Family Matters", "Designing Women", "Magnum P. I.", and "Fresh Prince of Bel Air". He also starred in the cult horror flick "Friday the 13th Part V". "I hope to make a successful transition from acting to directing for television and film", said Ross.

Set to air in April, look for Ross to be featured in a VH-1 two-hour documentary about the lives of child stars.

The BodyTools Daily Skin Care Guide for Men Now Available at Nordstrom and Ritz-Carlton Spas

The BodyTools Daily Skin Care Guide for Men Now Available at Nordstrom and Ritz-Carlton Spas

BodyTools has designed an easy-to-follow daily skin care routine that focuses on these five steps: cleanse, shave, moisturize, repair and protect. The guide is now available at selected Nordstrom stores and selected Ritz-Carlton Spas worldwide.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 9, 2007

BodyTools has made it easy for today's male to have healthy looking skin by creating a naturally based product line that is carefully formulated to work with minimal effort and maximum effect. To compliment its skin care line, BodyTools has designed an easy-to-follow daily skin care routine that focuses on these five steps: cleanse, shave, moisturize, repair and protect. The guide is now available at selected Nordstrom stores and selected Ritz-Carlton Spas worldwide.

"What men want most is a simple regimen of daily skin care that is high on results and low on maintenance" says Dr. Steve May, President of BodyTools.

The sport's scores get a man's attention--not his facial skin. But men can have dry or oily skin, get blackheads and in-grown hairs, and have red, irritated spots from shaving. Men also can get wrinkles. What men don't want is a complex regimen or a cabinet full of chemicals. But the bottom line is: if a man wants to look good he has got to deal with his skin.

BodyTools has made it simple for today's male to have healthy looking skin by creating a naturally based product line that is carefully formulated to work with minimal effort and maximum effect. To compliment our skin care line we have designed an easy-to-follow daily skin care routine that focuses on these five steps: cleanse, shave, moisturize, repair and protect.

5 Steps To A Great-Looking Face

Step One: Cleanse Your Face Twice A Day with BodyTools moisturizing face and body wash.

Washing your skin removes pollution and debris, as well as dead skin cells. Washing also removes the dirt that can lead to clogged pores and infection. Keeping your face clean is also essential if you want to avoid blackheads, spots and an oily shine.

Step Two: Get the Perfect Shave with BodyTools shave cream with aloe and tea tree oil.

There is no substitute for warm water and a good blade. Warm water or steam softens the bristles of a man's beard and opens up the pores on the skin. With a blunt blade you will end up with redness and blotches on your face and neck.

Use the proper shave preparation and apply it correctly. Only use products that will keep the skin moist and soft while promoting moisture retention and a thin layer of your shave preparation is all you need. Use the proper shaving method.

Shave in the direction of the hair growth over your face only once and rinse the blade often.

Step Three: Moisturize Your Skin Twice a Day with BodyTools spf 15 oil free fragrance free face guard moisturizer with anti-oxidant powerblend.

A moisturizer is essential to keep skin supple and smooth. Moisturizers can't make wrinkles disappear but they can, temporarily make wrinkles less noticeable and stop your skin from flaking and feeling tight and uncomfortable. Moisturizers work best when used just after you shower or bathe so you can trap in the water that has just been absorbed. So after showering in the morning and in the evening after cleansing, use a moisturizer over your entire face and body.

Step Four: Repair Yourself with BodyTools spf 15 after shave repair and protect with 3.0% tea tree oil and acetylsalicylic acid.

Completing your shave routine with a moisturizer that contains potent anti-inflammatory ingredients such as acetylsalicylic acid (stabilized aspirin) will help to alleviate the redness and razor bumps/burn that accompanies shaving. If you are concerned about preventing or managing acne use an aftershave product that has antiseptic ingredients such as tea tree oil at a minimum 3.0% concentration.

Step Five: Protection From The Elements with BodyTools spf 15 after shave repair and protect, BodyTools spf 15 face guard, BodyTools spf 15 citrus body armor

A man's face gets constant exposure to UV radiation from the sun. The single most important cause of premature skin ageing, wrinkles and skin cancers is sun exposure. Every 60 minutes one person dies of melanoma in the United States. And bad news for men: Older Caucasian males have the highest mortality rates from melanoma. For complete UVA/UVB protection use a sunscreen product formulated at least at the SPF 15 protection level and also containing one of the following ingredients:(Parsol 1789, Titanium Dioxide, or Zinc Oxide.)

A man's face is what people see first. If a man wants a simple skin care routine that is high on results and low on maintenance-then clear, healthy-looking skin is just a few simple steps away.

BodyTools is available in selected NORDSTROM locations through-out Southern California, the State of Washington, Colorado, Arizona and Illinois. The BodyTools line is also available at fine spas and resorts including Selected Ritz-Carlton Spas Worldwide and coming soon to the Bath House at Mandalay Bay, Ls Vegas. BodyTools is also available at other fine retail locations include Fred Segal's (Melrose), Los Angeles Sporting Club and online at www. labodytools. com.

The KoamTac KDC Product Suite Becomes the First “Grand Slam” of Bluetooth Barcode Scanners

The KoamTac KDC Product Suite Becomes the First “Grand Slam” of Bluetooth Barcode Scanners

KDC barcode scanners now support Android, Blackberry, iPhone/iPad and Windows Smartphones.

Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) August 4, 2010

KoamTac, Inc. announced today the release of the KTSync® keyboard wedge and application generation software for the KDC line of barcode scanners. KDC barcode scanners now support Bluetooth barcode data collection directly to stock and custom applications on all major Smartphones: including Android, iPhone/iPad, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile. This new release also introduces improved data formatting, an “out-of-box” stockroom inventory program, and easy to use SDK’s to allow seamless integration of Bluetooth or batch barcode scanning into small and large enterprise applications where mobility, convenience and reliability are required.

The iPhone, iPad and iPod touch versions of KTSync® are now available from Apple App Store. The KDC200i and KDC300i are the only Bluetooth scanners certified by Apple® as “Made for iPhone, iPad, iPod” accessories, and support not only HID Bluetooth profile but also Made for iPhone Bluetooth profile enabling two way communication between KDC and iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The Blackberry and Windows Mobile versions of KTSync® can be downloaded from www. koamtac. com/support (http://www. koamtac. com/support). The Android version is currently available to strategic partners only with a general release scheduled in September, 2010.

“What’s most exciting about this product is its absolute versatility and convenience,” said Palmer Renninger, VP of Sales for BarcodeGuy. com, an authorized KoamTac partner. “It connects to your cell phone, iPad/tablet or PC seamlessly, giving you fast, reliable barcode scanning with a form factor you can wear around your neck, tuck in your pocket, or wear on the back of hand using optional KDC custom glove with built in trigger button.” He added, “With a 30ft range via a high speed Bluetooth connection, you can scan data into your phone while it’s on your belt, purse or desk and the program will direct the user to perform the specific data entry task assigned to him via the OLED display on the KDC. There’s a tremendous interest from iPhone and iPad users because the KDC line also allows them to switch between the scanner and the soft keypad quickly by pushing a button.”

The KDC lines allows enterprises to integrate fast, reliable barcode data collection to their mobile workers’ handset of choice and are a logical choice for the transportation, field service, retail, warehousing and healthcare industries without the cost or complexity of traditional mobile computers.

There are two Bluetooth models: the KDC200 (less than two cubic inches in volume and weighing only 1.2 ounces) has an integrated laser scan engine for reading all popular linear barcodes and the KDC300 (less than four cubic inches in volume and weigh only 1.9 ounces) utilizes industry-leading Adaptus® Imaging technology from Honeywell, enabling high-performance omni-directional reading of linear and 2D barcodes, postal codes, and optical character recognition (OCR) codes. On a fully charged battery both Bluetooth models are able to scan and transfer barcodes for several days with Bluetooth connection enabled, consigning the single-shift batteries and their space-taking chargers to history.

“As Smartphones and tablets become the “device of choice” for each enterprise’s mobile professionals, Bluetooth barcode scanning becomes an essential business tool in diverse application areas", said Dr. Hanjin Lee, CEO and founder of KoamTac, Inc. "As competition in the mobile device market heats up, companies with mobile device fleets will upgrade their applications and devices to leverage ever increasing capabilities at lower and lower costs. KoamTac is committed to support all major mobile device platforms. So if and when you change your Smartphone, you won’t have to change your barcode scanner."

About KoamTac, Inc.

KoamTac’s products are the world’s smallest and lightest barcode terminals on the market supporting V2.0+EDR Class 2 Bluetooth, 1” OLED display, rechargeable battery, and maximum 4MB of memory for storing 100,000+ product database in traditional batch data collection applications. Bundled KTSync® keyboard wedge and application generation software enables barcode scanning integration without modification to most line-of-business applications. Overwhelming Number of Americans Concerned About Their Weight

Overwhelming Number of Americans Concerned About Their Weight

Weight Loss Primarily Drives Dietary Change and Physical Activity According to International Food Information Council Foundation 2010 Food & Health Survey

Washington, DC (Vocus) July 8, 2010

Most Americans (70 percent) say they are concerned about their weight status, and an overwhelming majority (77 percent) are trying to lose or maintain their weight. When asked what actions they are taking, most Americans say they are changing the amount of food they eat (69 percent); changing the type of foods they eat (63 percent); and engaging in physical activity (60 percent). Further, 65 percent of Americans report weight loss as a top driver for improving the healthfulness of their diet; 16 percent report improving their diet to maintain weight. Similarly, losing or maintaining weight is the main motivator (35 percent) for Americans who are physically active, yet a large majority of people (77 percent) are not meeting the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines.

These findings are part of the International Food Information Council Foundation’s fifth annual Food & Health Survey which takes an extensive look at Americans’ eating, health and physical activity habits, as well as food safety practices.

“Americans are hearing about the importance of weight to their health from a variety of sources, and it appears to be driving healthful changes in their lives,” says Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA, Senior Vice President, Nutrition and Food Safety at the International Food Information Council Foundation. “Even at the highest levels of government, from the White House's Let's Move campaign to the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, there's significant focus on an overweight and obese population, with an emphasis on reducing the amount of calories in the diet and increasing physical activity, but first people need to understand the role that calories play.”

The Balancing Act of Diet and Physical Activity

Americans continue to show a lack of understanding of “calories in” and “calories out” and their relationship to weight. For example, when it comes to calories consumed versus calories burned, most Americans (58 percent) do not make an effort to balance the two. In addition, of those who say they are trying to lose or maintain weight, only 19 percent say they are keeping track of calories, which can be a tool for those trying to manage weight.

The Food & Health Survey continues to find that few Americans (12 percent) can accurately estimate the number of calories they should consume in a day. Furthermore, many Americans do not know how many calories they burn in a day (43 percent) or offer inaccurate estimates (35 percent say 1000 calories or less).

“People need help understanding how to balance diet and physical activity choices to attain a healthy weight, but there is more to the equation,” said Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, MS, RD, Senior Director of Health and Wellness at the Foundation. “Small steps toward a healthy weight can equal giant leaps in achieving an overall healthful lifestyle.”

The Foundation’s 2010 Food & Health Survey captured the thoughts, perceptions, and actions of 1,024 American adults over a two and a half-week period in April and May of 2010.

Additional Key Findings from the International Food Information Council Foundation 2010 Food & Health Survey include:

Awareness and Use of Federal Programs such as the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid

Americans have at least heard of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (71 percent, consistent with findings from 2009). Most have heard of MyPyramid (85 percent), but the majority (71 percent) have not used it. Consumer Perceptions of Food Components included in the Dietary Guidelines

More than half of Americans (53 percent) are concerned with the amount of sodium in their diet and more likely to look for sodium content on the Nutrition Facts Panel (NFP). Americans seem to be less focused on dietary fat than in previous years, with significant decreases in the number who report looking for total fat on the NFP. Americans are trying to consume more fiber (72 percent) and whole grains (73 percent). Food Safety Practices and Confidence in a Safe Food Supply

When asked to what extent, if at all, are you confident in the safety of the U. S. food supply, 47 percent of Americans reported that they are confident or somewhat confident, similar to previous years. Similar to 2009, Americans still have room for improvement when it comes to practicing good food safety at home including: o 72 percent (vs. 79 percent in 2008) properly store leftovers within two hours of serving.

O 78 percent (vs. 92 percent in 2008) wash cutting boards with soap and water or bleach.

O 89 percent (vs. 92 percent in 2008) wash their hands with soap and water regularly when handling food.

The Impact of the Economy on Food and Beverage Purchases

Price continues to have a large impact on consumers’ food and beverage purchasing decisions (73 percent in 2010 vs. 64 percent in 2006). As in previous years, taste remains the biggest influence on purchasing decisions (86 percent) followed by price, healthfulness (58 percent) and convenience (55 percent). Consumer Food Shopping Preferences

The majority of Americans (88 percent) conduct most of their shopping at a supermarket/grocery store vs. a warehouse shopping club (4 percent) or a discount retailer (4 percent). Most Americans are either somewhat or extremely satisfied with the healthfulness of products offered at their supermarket (73 percent). The 2010 Food & Health Survey also covers consumer attitudes on protein, use of the Nutrition Facts Panel and other forms of food and beverage labeling, as well as low-calorie sweeteners, caffeine, food additives and colors.

new My Mexican Tattoo

Back in May of 2009 when I was in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, I got this tattoo down at Baja Tattoo in Cabo. I'm not sure that I've ever posted it here, so here it is....The artist's name is Carlos, and he is the owner of Baja Tattoos. It is in the same mall as Sammy Hagar's Bar, Cabo Wabo. They stay opened late and I think they get a lot of business staggering in from the bar! They do some really fine work at Baja Tattoos. Although I've heard "Don't ever get a tattoo in Mexico!", I can vouch for Baja tattoos being extremely clean, talented and professional! A great bunch of artists work there.....I had this work done before the extensive sleeve work got started on my right arm...

The tattoo is an interpretation of a classic

most popular Man tattoos

This year's Burning Man was an incredible journey for me, and an amazing burn for all who attended. We experienced almost three full days without any dust storms, which has to be some kind of record for Burning Man. The weather was amazing, the art was amazing, the music was amazing, and the TATTOOS are always amazing.

First of all in the tattoo department, let me tell you the most wonderful story. On day two of the event, I wandered deep into the playa with my good friend Aaron Steiner. We were on our bicycles, looking at art installations way out in the deep playa. At one point I noticed what looked like an art installation that had fallen over or something. It was still quite far away, but I could see that something was up, and there was a pickup truck parked near it and some people milling about...I snapped a couple of pictures, and then headed towards the apparent wreckage of an art installation gone bad.

When I got close, a handsome fellow wearing a brown leather vest and a yellow skirt, came bounding up to me. "Hey man, our wall fell over, we need some help putting it back up!" he said. I immediately noticed that this guy had a beautiful Burning Man tattoo on his left upper arm. It was a gorgeous tattoo, and I asked him if I could take a photo of it. Sure he said, and as I readied my camera I asked him where he had it done. "Vancouver" he said, and as I asked him who did it, a strange wave of familiarity and certainty came over me. "A guy named Dave Nicholson at the Dutchman Tattoo shop" he said, and it hit me. Dave is the artist who did MY right arm sleeve, and he had been telling me about another guy he was doing a Burning Man tattoo for! As I started telling my new friend the story, he exploded in exclamation "Holy shit! You're the guy Dave's been telling me about, the guy who worked on the Heavy Metal movie?"

Well, it was an incredible meeting to say the least. Our mutual tattoo artist had been telling us about each other for the last year, and here we were, meeting in the middle of absolutely nowhere in the deep playa at Burning Man! At this point in my life, I don't really believe in coincidence. Think what you will, but this meeting was in my mind, a destined and very special occasion, orchestrated by mischievous elves from the 6th dimension!

Me and T-Bone posing with our Dave Nicholson tats

While I was at Burning Man, I took photos of tattoos that caught my eye, always asking the individual's if I could photograph them. People love showing off their tats. Here are some of my favorites.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tattoos

These days’ tattoos are more common than ever. Tattoos have gained quite a bit in popularity over the years, giving people a chance to stand out and broadcast who they really are. Men and women alike have tattoos, some covering their entire body. The choice is entirely up to you though, as you can get a tattoo in virtually any size you want.

Even though there are many good things about tattoos, there are bad things as well. Among the good things about tattoos include the chance to broadcast who you are, the chance to be you, and the chance to stand out. Most people who get tattoos get them for the symbolic meaning. Although there are some who get tattoos strictly for the look, many end up regretting getting the tattoo later on in life.

Tattoos are great for show, although the design itself should hold some meaning. There are a variety of designs and colors to choose from, which helps to add to the positive benefits of tattoos. You can check out many designs at your local tattoo studio, in books and magazines, and on the Internet. The Internet is a great resource for tattoo designs, as there are literally thousands to look at. You can also look at pictures of those who have tattoos so you can get an idea as to what a certain style will look like once it has been finished.

The cons of tattoos are pretty straight forward. Tattoos work by piercing the skin with a needle and injecting little gobs of ink. With that being said the risk of infection when getting a tattoo is always there. If the tattoo artist isn’t sanitary and doesn’t clean his equipment after every use, the risk of infection will be much higher.

Another thing to worry about with tattoos is removal. If you later decide that you don’t want the tattoo, you’ll have to pay an expensive price to have it surgically removed. Surgery carries risks and complications as well. In some cases, those who have got tattoos have had to have the tattoo removed due to infection. In these cases the infection has gotten so bad that there really is no other choice than to get the tattoo removed.

No matter how you look at it, there will always be both pros and cons with tattoos. Before you decide to get a tattoo, you should make sure that the design you have picked out is something that you can see yourself with for years to come. If there is any doubt in your mind about the tattoo, you shouldn’t get it. Even though it may seem cool at the time – the price for removal and the complications with surgery may not be worth it in the long run.

What Are The Risks Of Getting Tattoos?

Although most tattoos are applied with no problems at all, there are some tattoos that result in a not so good outcome. No matter how safe you may think they are, you simply can’t overlook the risks involved with getting a tattoo. Tattoo artists may tell you that there are no risks involved - although this isn’t the case.

The biggest concern you have when getting a tattoo is unsanitary equipment. If the equipment isn’t cleaned and disinfected after each use, the risk for getting a disease is very high. You can also end up with a serious skin disease as well, if the tattoo gun is dirty or if the tattoo artist doesn’t clean his equipment. The tattoo studio should be clean as well. With a lot of visitors, a studio can get dirty quickly - which is why it should be cleaned on a daily basis.

After getting your tattoo, if you notice any swelling or excessive redness around the tattoo, you should visit a doctor immediately, to find out if the tattoo is infected. In most cases, tattoo infections can be treated with medicine. If the infection is severe, you may be admitted to the hospital so they can further treat you. In the more severe cases, you may end up having to get the tattoo removed to prevent further infection. Removing a tattoo requires surgery, which also involves risks as well.

If removal of the tattoo is recommended or requested, the procedure can either be performed as an out patient surgery or one that requires a minimal stay in the hospital. The surgeon or physician will determine the removal, based on your health and overall chances of developing an infection. In most cases, tattoo removal is safe, with most patients given medicine that will treat infections and prevent any type of pain.

Although health risks are a concern, one of the biggest concern for may is the overall appearance of the tattoo. Tattoos that are done by amateurs or not applied well, normally result in the appearance being ruined. Tattoos are something that will stick with you for the rest of your life, which is why the appearance is so important. If you get a tattoo removed, chances are that a scar will always remain. Even though most scars will become less noticeable as years go by, they will never completely go away - and always provide a reminder that a tattoo was once there.
Before you get a tattoo, you should always make it a point to examine the studio and ensure that it’s clean. You should also ask questions, and make sure that the tattoo artists clean the equipment they use. If you stick around for a bit at the studio, you can normally find out a lot about the way they do business and how clean they are. If the studio appears to be clean and tidy, chances are you won’t have to worry about dirty equipment or infections.

As with everything else in life, there are always decision to make. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, you should first decide your reason for getting it, how you will feel about having it later on in life, and if the tattoo is something you can see yourself with. Before you put a permanent tattoo on your body, you should make sure that you are getting the tattoo for you because you want it. Whatever you do, you should always avoid getting a tattoo simply because someone else suggested it.

The Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, New Mexico Offers Four Summer Exhibitions around the Theme “Return to Sacred Places”

This summer, Taos, New Mexico, is offering as it travel education theme, “Return to Sacred Places” dozens of events, workshops, outings, tours and exhibitions that gets to the core of what this magical, enchanted region has to offer.

Taos, NM (Vocus) June 9, 2010

This summer, Taos, New Mexico, is offering as it travel education theme, “Return to Sacred Places” dozens of events, workshops, outings, tours and exhibitions that gets to the core of what this magical, enchanted region has to offer.

On June 26, The Harwood Museum of Art of the University of New Mexico is opening four exhibitions that explore this theme.

A Hidden Treasure in Southwestern Art is Uncovered in “Gene Kloss: From Berkeley to Taos”

Work of the printmaking virtuoso from 1924 to 1985

Joyce and Sherman Scott Gallery of Late 20th Century Art

Alice Geneva “Gene” Glasier (1903-1996), National Academician, was born in Oakland, California in 1903. For more than six decades she documented the people and cultures of the Southwest with exquisite skill, profound respect, and an undeniable spirituality. It was because of these special qualities that she was welcomed by Native American and Hispanic communities and allowed to witness rarely seen ceremonies. Due to her meticulous observation and recollection, she provided the world with an insight into these culturally significant, often private customs.

The Harwood exhibition, “Gene Kloss - from Berkeley to Taos” follows Ms. Kloss’ chronological life-long journey featuring a showing of the artist's early years from 1924-1933, her Colorado years from 1965-1970, and finally, her largest body of work that she created in Taos after 1970. The works document Kloss’ travels and particular interests in California and the American Southwest during the first part of the 20th century, and her growing proficiency in the intaglio print process. Prints, paintings, charcoal drawings to pencil, ink portraits and sketches will all be featured.

Return to Sacred Places & Taos Pueblo Photographs Paired in Two Exhibitions at The Harwood Museum

Paintings by the Taos Founders and photographs of Taos Pueblo from 1875 get to the heart of the Taos experience

Dorothy and Jack Brandenburg Gallery of Early 20th Century Art

George F. Foster Jr. Gallery for Prints, Drawings and Photographs

In keeping with the “Return to Sacred Places,” theme selected by the Town of Taos for the 2010 travel season, The Harwood Museum of Art presents a showcase of masterworks from its collection, focusing on the Taos Founders and their painterly interpretations of sacred places in Northern New Mexico.

During the first part of the 20th Century, the landscape and native cultures of Taos attracted artists. These are the artists who came to Taos in search of nature over technology, and eloquently portrayed the sacredness of the landscape and the indigenous cultures.

Victor Higgins, (1884-1949), “Winter Funeral” represents the theme of the town and holds a sacred place for the museum. Long considered a landmark piece of the museum collection, “Winter Funeral” was originally hung above the fireplace by the artist himself. This piece will be featured along with work by Joseph Henry Sharp, E. I. Couse, Bert Geer Phillips, Ernest L. Blumenschein, Oscar Berninghaus, Victor Higgins, and Walter Ufer.

Paired with this exhibit is Taos Pueblo Photographs, images made from 1875 to the present.

Taos Pueblo, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been a magnet for photographers since shortly after the invention of photography in France in 1839, and this exhibition of original, rare photographs has been collected piece by piece over nearly two decades.

The exhibition moves into the 1940s with works by Ernest Knee, (1907-1982), and has works by the contemporary photographers William Davis, Gus Foster, Douglas Kent Hall, Bernard Plossu and the Taos Pueblo photographer, Bruce Gomez.

Sacred Navajo Sandpaintings, Rendered in Wool

Ritual Paintings for the access of Divine Healing

Peter and Madeleine Martin Foundation Gallery for Changing Exhibits

Sandpainting has long been utilized by various cultures as a means of accessing divine healing powers. These are often temporary, ritual paintings prepared for religious or healing ceremonies. In the United States the Native Americans in the Southwest are the primary practitioners (the most famous of which are the Navajo). The Navajo term for sandpainting is iikaah, "place where the gods come and go." The intended result is a balanced, harmonious and healthy relationship with the Holy People.

Because sandpaintings are viewed as spiritual temporal communication portals, and represent graphic and sacred renderings of the Navajo's religious world, the work is more of a temporary altar and not at all considered a work of art. For the Navajo, it would seem strange and inappropriate to view a sandpainting as two-dimensional art because, in its proper place, the sandpainting is the powerful and sacred center of their universe.

The ceremonies involving sandpaintings are usually done in sequences, termed 'chants,' lasting a certain number of days, depending on the ceremony. At least one fresh, new sandpainting is made for each day. Typically, a single sandpainting is created, utilized and destroyed within a 12-hour time frame. The work is considered toxic after the ceremony has been conducted and the patient is once again “in balance.”

In 1896, the first sandpainting rug was woven in Chaco Canyon. Several more rugs were woven between there, the fate of which are unknown. No information is available on these rugs, but there is strong evidence that their existence created dissent — supposedly resulting in the cessation of production of sandpainting tapestries for a number of years.

Emerging Countries Benefit at the Expense of Industrial Countries

Emerging Countries Benefit at the Expense of Industrial Countries

The world’s newly industrialized countries (NIC) are the focus of the majority of today’s growth, especially among major industries, according to global trade credit insurer Euler Hermes.

Paris (PRWEB) November 18, 2005

The world’s newly industrialized countries (NIC) are the focus of the majority of today’s growth, especially among major industries, according to global trade credit insurer Euler Hermes. Meanwhile, the so-called already industrialized countries (AIC) are seeing either very weak growth (Europe) or growth that is artificially sustained by a fall in household savings and a gigantic current account deficit (United States).

A recent international forecast by market sector shows that the AIC only owe their growth to a few industries that are protected from global competition, such as the aeronautics and automotive fields. In other industrial sectors, Euler Hermes sees a rapid migration toward the NIC.

--Textiles and Electronics migrate to emerging countries with low wage bills

Having topped 4% in 2004, world growth is expected to drop back to 3% this year and 2.8% next year. This slowdown remains controlled and has affected geographic regions and sectors to differing degrees. The emerging countries, chiefly China, are continuing to grow at a very steady pace. This growth is especially underpinned by very rapid expansion of the local consumer goods industry, whether traditional (textiles) or more technological (mass market electronics). It is responding to rapid growth in demand due to the maintenance of strong consumption in the United States and large market share gains by the NIC, especially in Western Europe. Thanks to ever easier global trade, investment in capacity is being channeled from western countries to regions with low wage costs (the hourly industrial wage in China is around $1.17 compared to $21.03 in the United States and $29.21 in Europe).

--Iron & Steel and Cars: the industrialized countries are just as weakened in downstream manufacturing.

The emerging countries are developing a significant industry in intermediate goods, especially in iron and steel, and they have established production capacities that exceed local processing industry needs.

The unprecedented explosion in steel prices in 2004 enabled all producers to increase their profitability, and restructure and consolidate their business. A relaxation of prices in the first half of 2005 (down 25% compared with the highs of 2004) provided the opportunity to a number of steelmakers to relocate production to the highest growth areas where raw materials are more accessible (mainly Asia or South America). But can the current reduction in prices be sustained? The answer to that will probably come from China, the world’s leading producer but also – and this is a new feature – a net exporter of steel since the end of 2004, which has generated a back-track in steel prices (an annual average fall of 17% from 2006 is now anticipated).

--Despite the sector’s healthy state, the main European and American car manufacturers are faced with ever-increasing competition from the emerging countries.

The AIC – the United States, Western Europe, and Japan – are maintaining a dominant position in the car manufacturing sector, but this is being increasingly challenged by new low-production-cost regions (Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe). U. S. carmakers and equipment manufacturers are mired in difficulties, while the situation of French and German manufacturers, which even last year was still good, is deteriorating. Japanese carmakers are the principal beneficiaries, but so are sub-contractors in emerging countries. By 2011, global automobile production is expected to see growth of 23% compared with 2004, 80% of which will be due to emerging countries (China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand).

--Aeronautics, Construction are underpinning the AIC’s resistance

Strongly destabilized upstream (intermediate goods) and downstream, the AICs only owe their survival to good performance by the pharmaceutical and aeronautical industries (better protected by the entry barrier created by their past investment in research), capital goods, and sectors protected from international competition (distribution and construction).

--The new aeronautics operators want to share in the strong growth, despite the technological and financial entry barriers put up by the historic players.

The good state of the global aeronautics industry largely benefits the United States and Europe, which account for 80% of global sales. Nevertheless, the heavy competition that airlines are currently indulging in (cost reductions, aggressive sales policies) are pushing sector players to become increasingly international in the context of a sharp upturn in orders and deliveries (a 40% increase in Airbus and Boeing deliveries through to 2007), which is benefiting a number of countries like Japan, China and even Russia, and could further feed their ambitions in this area.

-- Construction is an essential growth driver in Spain, the United States and France, but is having difficulty picking up in Japan and Germany.

Even though construction is in a healthy state in the industrialized countries – with the USA, Japan and major European countries remaining the principal markets overall – the sector’s growth vectors are primarily in the emerging countries: Asia (excluding Japan), Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa are expected to record over 3% annual average growth for the period from 2003 to 2014.

This may seem like it will take a lot of time and effort, but in actuality it will not. You can take an easy method and look at images on Google, but chances are it will not be original. Most times, someone else would have already chosen one of those images that you have found.

If you really want a nice original tattoo, to strictly limit yourself tattoo websites that have a large database of unique designs. Most of these websites will only offer these designs to their members only, and yes there is a fee to be a member. However, the fee is small and it will be well worth the money. These websites can also give even reviews of different tattoo parlors, so making your decision of where to get inked will be made easier.
