Historic Theatre Relies on Troxell Communications to Blend Digital Technology with Rustic Charm

Historic Theatre Relies on Troxell Communications to Blend Digital Technology with Rustic Charm

City of Yuma, AZ selected Troxell Communications to supply and install their new digital projection system during the rennovation of the Historic Yuma Theatre, originally constructed in 1911. The City's goal was to integrate a top-of-the-line AV system into the theatre while still maintaining the ambience of the old Southwest.

(PRWEB) March 11, 2004

Visitors to the newly renovated Historic Yuma Theatre in downtown Yuma, Arizona will see a contrast between the old and the new – not in architecture, but in technology. Although the exterior of the theatre has undergone many architectural changes since its construction in 1911, the interior décor has remained virtually unchanged. Today, Historic Yuma Theatre still houses 19th century movie projection technology. It’s the home to the only still-functioning carbon arc projectors west of the Mississippi. It also holds much newer projection technology – a state of the art digital theatre system supplied and installed by Troxell Communications, Inc.

The newly refurbished theatre is the centerpiece of the 40,000 square foot Yuma Downtown Art Center, the CityÂ’s $6 million restoration project that broke ground in September 2002. Besides showing movies, the theatre will be host to corporate training presentations and civic functions. In order to serve as a modern day training and presentation facility while keeping the feel of the old Southwest, the City Council realized the necessity for a highly innovative projection system. They turned to Troxell Communications, a state-approved vendor and one of the largest audiovisual suppliers to government agencies nationwide. Having partnered with Troxell on several past projects, the City relied on the company to recommend suitable AV equipment that would honor the theatreÂ’s historic ambience.

“It was extremely important to maintain the original look and feel of the theatre, so the new systems had to be as unobtrusive as possible,” said John Shotts, Troxell Account Executive for the City of Yuma. “I helped them put together a reasonably priced, high-end digital theatre system using components from leading manufacturers”.

The theatreÂ’s new system consists of elements from several manufacturers:

· Sanyo PLC-XF45 True XGA Digital Multimedia Projector

· Sony DVD player

· JVC HR-S9911U SVHS Super VHS System

· JBL AM4200/64 Mid-High Frequency Loudspeakers

· dbx® DriveRack® Soundsystem Control

The project is now in its final stages, with finishing touches scheduled for completion in March 2004. The City of Yuma expects as many as 30,000 visitors to the theatre annually.

“I think that it’s going to be very well received and we are excited about the flexibility of the system,” stated Roberta Ukura, Yuma Art Center Manager. “The installation team was very responsive and worked with our special needs regarding the historic nature of the building. The price was excellent as well,” said Ukura.

Bust Stress with Personality-based Planning

Bust Stress with Personality-based Planning

Susie Glennan of Busy Woman, Inc. provides expert solutions to stress.

Thousand Oaks, CA (PRWEB) July 5, 2005

Stress is the most common health problem among women (51%), followed closely by tiredness and lack of energy (49%). This comes as no surprise to Susie Glennan, owner of The Busy Woman Inc., who provides assistance and support to women who struggle to balance the multiple responsibilities of work and family life. As a mother and entrepreneur herself, Glennan knows the issues firsthand and promotes time management and organization as the keys to minimizing stress.

“Most women intuitively know that planning and organization are vital to reducing stress, but become overwhelmed at the thought of developing a time management system because they've tried and failed before,” says Glennan who has counseled hundreds of women on time management since taking over operations of The Busy Woman Inc. in 1999. “Most of our clients have tried and tossed dozens of systems before finding The Busy Woman.”

An early adaptor to personality based time management, the company's signature product The Busy Woman Daily Planner® first came onto the market in 1990. The planner is designed to be customizable to meet the needs of a wide variety of needs and personalities. It's this customization that is one of the two vital ingredients to successful time management according to Glennan.

“You can't apply the one size fits all philosophy to time management and expect it to reduce stress. The system you use is going to be different from your mother, your neighbor and your sister,” explains Glennan, “The key is finding the right combination for a natural fit into a woman's lifestyle.”

To learn more about personality based time management and the effects that effective time management can have on stress levels or to arrange an interview, contact Susie Glennan at 800-848-7715.

Recent medical research results are summarized in two practical health guides, by Donald A. Miller, Ph. D. Seven of ten deaths in USA are from preventable chronic diseases. Both books are available as paperback and electronic ebook.

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) August 31, 2004

Recent medical research results are summarized in two practical health guides, by Donald A. Miller, Ph. D. Seven of ten deaths in USA are from preventable chronic diseases. Both books are available as paperback and electronic ebook. Much popular health information is contrary to science, even from some medical doctors, nutritionists, and fitness experts. Government and other authoritative reports show that some of the old folk wisdom is actually good advice.

Forget such weight loss nonsense as "fat burners", "low carb", drugs, and surgery. Simply eat low fat, low sugar, high plant food diets, plus get at least moderate exercise, such as walking a mile or two on five days per week. Be sure to avoid tobacco and other smoking materials, and be moderate in alcohol consumption.

Living long really is that simple.

Plants can provide all essential proteins and fats, as well as disease fighting hormones. Such foods can replace part of meats in pleasant diets that do not require hunger or calorie counting. Choose foods wisely and eat all you want.

"The only carbs I watch are sugars and beer." -- author.

Title 1: "Easy Health Diet: Manage weight and prevent scary diseases"

Much popular advice on weight loss violates known biology, chemistry, physics. Low carb is high dumb.

Book includes recipes and web links to over 32,500 more, but teaches concepts so readers can create their own menus.

Title 2: "Easy Exercise All Ages: Stay vital and prevent scary diseases"

We don't stop exercising because we get old. We get old because we stop exercising.

Illustrated book includes stress relievers for work-place. Workouts are low cost, because equipment is optional.

eBook: ISBN 0-9741675-3-3

paperback: ISBN 0-9741675-5-X

The ebook formats, via download or CD, have active links to internet, accessing many source documents. Full URL links are also shown in the paperback formats.

We can't live for ever, but we can delay the onset of death - causing diseases by Good Diet and Moderate Exercise, with no tobacco and only moderate alcohol. It's really that simple.

Zoomerang Survey Asks Americans, "What Would You Do as President?"

Zoomerang Survey Asks Americans, "What Would You Do as President?"

This lighthearted online survey finds Americans would eat comfort food, dress the part (America pin and all) and maybe even bring their best friend with them if they could live the dream of being president.

San Francisco (PRWEB) January 20, 2009

Zoomerang, the leader in online surveys (http://www. zoomerang. com), today released the results of its January 2009 survey focused on what decisions the American public would make if they were moving into the White House this month. In the spirit of the inauguration, more than 200 Americans responded with answers that show the true diversity of personalities across our great nation. "Finally knowing what is in Area 51" and "the power to do good," were two such comments shared in answer to the question, "What would be most exciting about becoming president?"

The new administration has already made a number of important decisions about their move to Washington. Some interesting developments are that Malia and Sasha Obama will have their grandmother living with them at the White House and will be attending private school. When asked who they would most want to bring with them if they were to become president, 66% of Americans said they would just want to bring their immediate family. 15% of people surveyed would want to bring their parents and 12% would bring their best friend. School was another issue we thought would be interesting to discuss. The results: 56% of Americans surveyed would send their children to private school so they could get the best education possible, while 28% would choose public school to demonstrate their faith in the public school system. Interestingly, 10% of those surveyed would home school their children to protect them.

When asked what type of food they would ask the White House chef to prepare for them, 31% of Americans stated they would want comfort food like pizza and burgers dished up, 29% would eat a healthful diet, and 20% would want to dine on more worldly fare. Another question posed to the nation was style related. As commander-in-chief, 42% would dress in the traditional beltway flair--full suit and America pin. Another 40% opted for a casual chic look including a blazer and shades saying to the public, "Hey, I'm laid back." As leader of the free world, Obama will be called many things from POTUS to Barack. When asked how they would prefer to be addressed as president, a whopping 89% of people surveyed prefer the polite "Mr. or Ms. President."

Zoomerang's online survey (http://www. zoomerang. com) also found some other fun stats about how America would act as president:

If they were to be immortalized, 32% of Americans would want to be on currency and 27% would want a monument resembling the Lincoln Memorial erected in their honor 38% of Americans would want to be close friends with their Secret Service agents, while 24% would see them as bodyguards and nothing more 54% of Americans would most enjoy throwing intimate gatherings with high-powered friends as president, whereas 15% would rather throw state dinners When asked what they would do with the portrait of W. hanging in the White House, 73% of people surveyed said they would let it hang in peace. Surprisingly, 5% of Americans would carefully scrape the paint off, melt it and reuse it for future art projects in a symbolic effort of frugality.

About the Zoomerang Survey

Data was collected using Zoomerang's online survey software (http://www. zoomerang. com) and is based on feedback from 215 U. S. respondents drawn from ZoomPanel, MarketTools' proprietary online sample source of more than 2.5 million individuals who have been validated through MarketTools TrueSample. The overall margin of error was 6 percent with a 92 percent confidence level. 30 of the 50 United States were represented. 53% of respondents were male and 47% were female.

On September 8, 2005 at the Boca Raton Hotel in Boca Raton, Florida, retired Army Reserve Lt. Colonel Bob Weinstein inspired and energized the General Managers of the hotel management firm, Tecton Hospitality with his highly interactive keynote on "The Three Keys to Performance Enhancement."

Asked why he spent the bulk of his time speaking about how to maximize emotional energy, Col Weinstein replied, "Emotional energy is the primary source that has a significant impact on our mental and physical lives. If the emotions are out-of-balance this will impact how we think, will stifle our creativity and negatively impact our relationships with others."

He further explained the importance of focusing on caring about others with a story about a 9 year old child who was terminally ill with cancer. When the Make-a-Wish-Foundation asked him what he wanted, his wish was to have a rock climbing wall built at his school for his classmates. He could have asked for a trip around the world, to meet a celebrity or visit Disney World. No! He wanted to do something for his classmates that would last beyond his death and he did. He wanted to make a significant difference although he had just a brief time to live.

TRAVEL INSURANCE – DO TRAVELERS REALLY NEED IT?

TRAVEL INSURANCE – DO TRAVELERS REALLY NEED IT?

The truth about travel insurance -- With the financial commitment involved in the purchase of a major trip or vacation, investing in travel insurance makes good sense. However, many policies offer more coverage than average travelers actually need. The Institute of Certified Travel Agents spells out what's really necessary when purchasing travel insurance.

(PRWEB) May 26, 2001

WELLESLEY, MASS. (May 25, 2001) – Imagine lying on a beach, enjoying the sun and surf when suddenly there’s a loud crack and you slip into blackness. A coconut has just fallen from a tree overhead and knocked you unconscious. Sound a little farfetched?

The truth of the matter is that accidents, emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can happen anywhere, at anytime and to anyone, although most travelers prefer not to think about it. Once considered an optional add-on, increasing numbers of travelers are viewing travel insurance as a necessity when making major travel purchases.

"Travel insurance makes sense when considering the financial commitment involved in the purchase of an expensive trip," says Jack E. Mannix, CTC, president of the Institute of Certified Travel Agents (ICTA). "However, when considering these policies, there are many coverage options that can be very confusing. Certified Travel Counselors (CTCs) can help travelers decipher the fine print to select a travel insurance package suited to their needs."

Travel Insurance: What It Covers

Travel insurance can protect travelersÂ’ health and well-being, and can save considerable expense should anything go wrong before, during or after their trip. Travel insurance can include trip cancellation/interruption protection, emergency medical and dental benefits, medical transportation, travel accident insurance, stolen baggage and baggage delay coverage, travel delay coverage, accident medical expenses, in-hospital indemnity legal referral, travel assistance and a hotline for emergency assistance.

In general, travel insurance can:

· Protect travelers’ investment if they have to cancel

· Provide 24-hour emergency medical referral and assistance during travel

· Reimburse unexpected travel expenses travelers may incur due to an emergency

· Protect travelers during a medical emergency

· Provide medical assistance to travelers abroad

The Difference Between Travel Insurance And Travel Protection

Though they might have very similar names, there is one major distinction between travel insurance and travel protection. Travel insurance is offered only through third-party companies that are licensed or approved by the state in which the product is being sold. Travel protection, however, is offered directly through a travel supplier such as a cruise line or tour operator. Travel suppliers that sell travel protection insurance are not required to be licensed by state agencies, and therefore, consumersÂ’ investments are not protected if the travel supplier declares bankruptcy or defaults.

What Types of Coverage Do I Really Need?

It is important to look at each component or a travel insurance package carefully since some comprehensive policies offer more coverage than travelers actually need. Here are the facts on the some of the most common types of travel insurance:

· Trip cancellation/interruption coverage – Necessary if the traveler has purchased an expensive trip that has no cancellation clause.

· Emergency medical coverage – Necessary if the traveler’s insurance will not cover where they are traveling. Also important if the medical care in the area where they are traveling is sub-par. Medical insurance should cover expenses from the moment the traveler leaves home until the moment they return, not just for the duration of the stay at the destination.

· Baggage lost – Not necessary if the traveler’s homeowner’s policy covers stolen bags. Additionally, most airlines will reimburse passengers for luggage lost in flight, usually to a maximum of $2,500 per person.

· Rental car coverage – Not necessary if the traveler’s auto insurance covers domestic rentals, and possibly overseas rentals.

· Accidental death – Necessary if the traveler has no other life insurance or wants extra protection to supplement their current policy. It will pay over and above the policy a traveler may already have.

· Medical evacuation – Necessary if traveling on a shoestring budget, independently, to developing countries, or if the traveler’s medical insurance will not cover emergency evacuation – and most don’t. Evacuation insurance should cover not just a trip to the nearest hospital, but all the way home.

ICTA encourages travelers to work directly with a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) to design a travel insurance package tailored specifically to their needs. ICTA also encourages travelers to contact their insurance company to verify what their current policies may or may not cover, particularly medical coverage overseas. To locate a CTC in your area or region, visit www. icta. com and click on "Find A Travel Professional."

Since its inception in 1964, ICTAÂ’s mission has been to increase professionalism within the travel industry and to create a national standard of excellence for travel professionals through its educational programs. ICTA is recognized as one of the travel industryÂ’s foremost authorities on consumer travel, industry trends and customer service.

Enrollment in High-Cost Health Plans Will Dominate the U. S. Healthcare Market by 2020, Predicts Booz Allen Hamilton: Middle Class Expected to Pay a High Financial Toll as More Employers and Individuals Sign on for High-Cost Plans

Enrollment in High-Cost Health Plans Will Dominate the U. S. Healthcare Market by 2020, Predicts Booz Allen Hamilton: Middle Class Expected to Pay a High Financial Toll as More Employers and Individuals Sign on for High-Cost Plans

A new analysis by the management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton (www. boozallen. com) projects that up to 60 percent of the privately insured in the U. S. - 120 million people - will be enrolled in some form of high-cost health plan by 2020. As these plans become increasingly pervasive, more consumers will assume greater responsibility for the cost of their healthcare, sparking an emerging crisis in the middle class as many are forced to make tradeoffs between medical care and other critical financial needs.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) October 1, 2007

Booz Allen's analysis is the result of interviews with executives from leading Blue Cross Blue Shield and national health plans, as well as data and insights from industry trade associations, policy groups and government agencies. The findings point to the urgent need for a radical restructuring of the U. S. healthcare system as the move towards greater consumer cost responsibility - frequently touted as an integral part of the solution to rising health costs - is even today far more widespread than consumer-driven health plan enrollment data show.

"Giving consumers more cost responsibility in a broken wholesale healthcare market will not work," said Gary Ahlquist, Booz Allen senior vice president. "The supply side of healthcare needs to be restructured such that patients can shop by comparing value. Consumers will also need real options for healthcare delivery and incentives to adopt healthy behaviors, along with new insurance and financial services products to help finance their care."

As employers of all sizes weigh how they can continue to affordably provide health coverage to their employees, and the nation searches for solutions to cover the uninsured, Booz Allen finds:

Many consumers are being forced to spend more of their income on healthcare. Today, more than 20 percent of the privately insured, some 38 million people, face out-of-pocket healthcare expenses that account for more than 10 percent of their after-tax incomes.

More than 15 percent of the privately insured are already enrolled in a high-deductible health plan--including coverage acquired through an employer or individually. Ten percent of people enrolled in "conventional" plans such as a PPO faced deductibles exceeding $1,000 in 2007, up from only four percent in 2002. At the same time, enrollment in consumer-driven health plans paired with a tax-exempt Health Savings or Health Reimbursement Account is projected at five to six percent of the market in 2007.

Conventional plans with high deductibles and high out-of-pocket costs will continue to dominate. By 2020, Booz Allen predicts that enrollment in conventional plans with these high-cost features could reach 35 to 40 percent of the privately insured market, while enrollment in consumer-driven health plans paired with a tax-exempt Health Savings or Health Reimbursement Account could reach 20 to 25 percent.

Calls for mandatory coverage may force more employers and individuals to buy high-cost plans, which may not improve access to care. As employer coverage declines, the number of uninsured in the U. S. grew nearly five percent from 2005 to 47 million in 2006, according to data from the U. S. Census Bureau. States that mandate universal health insurance to help consumers gain coverage in the form of high deductible plans may ultimately have little impact as the out-of-pocket costs could prove too high a threshold for many to access care.

"Employer-provided health coverage has long been viewed as an important benefit and safety net. However, this is often no longer the case," said David G. Knott, senior vice president at Booz Allen. "Even today, more than half of people enrolled in high-cost plans have no other healthcare option available to them. As the burden of healthcare costs increasingly shifts to the individual, consumers need solutions to ensure they can receive the care they need."

A report on this analysis, "Healthcare Consumerism: Trends in Consumer Cost-Sharing," is available on the Booz Allen web site.

Lexi-Comp, Inc. Receives NorthCoast 99 Honor

Lexi-Comp, Inc. Receives NorthCoast 99 Honor

Hudson company is recognized as one of Northeast Ohio's 99 great workplaces for top talent

Hudson, OH (PRWEB) September 2, 2009

Lexi-Comp, Inc., a leader in providing drug and clinical information for healthcare professionals and health information systems, has been selected as one of Northeast Ohio's 99 great workplaces for top talent. The Hudson-based, privately-owned company was founded in 1978 and its continued growth and commitment to excellence will be formally recognized at the NorthCoast 99 Awards Dinner later this month.

Now in its 31st year of business in Northeast Ohio, Lexi-Comp has grown from a start-up company producing printed laboratory manuals to a provider of drug reference and clinical decision support information delivered electronically to healthcare professionals around the globe. Chairman and founder, Robert D. Kerscher, built the business with a strong focus on providing exceptional customer service, listening to client feedback, and responding to the marketplace. He believes achieving these goals begins with serving the needs of employees and retaining exceptional talent. This philosophy has served the company well and has been upheld through the transition of strategic management and oversight of the company's daily operations to his son, Steven M. Kerscher.

"We are very honored to receive the NorthCoast 99 Award," comments Robert Kerscher. "I can certainly speak from experience on the importance of surrounding yourself with talented people to help make your lifelong vision a reality. The key for us has been a step-by-step approach. It went very smoothly because we had a simple plan of gaining the confidence of our people and diligently maintaining the culture on which the company was founded."

Through a rigorous review and selection process, the NorthCoast 99 program addresses seven key workplace characteristics integral to attracting and retaining individuals who perform at the highest level: flexibility, opportunity, recognition, development, security, support, and talent integrity.

These attributes have been well-established in the Lexi-Comp culture for years. Perhaps the most ingrained of these key attributes are flexibility and support of its employees. A people-centric attitude prevails during personal extenuating circumstances, such as an employee who needs to care for a family member or work flexible hours to manage work and home life appropriately. This focus on the health and well-being of employees is also evident in programs like the formation of a Wellness Committee, publicized healthy lifestyle tips, and encouraged participation in local activities such as the Akron Road Runner Marathon.

Having grown from 90 to over 130 employees in the last 5 years, a clearly defined performance management system has become essential, emphasizing the company's core values and fostering a culture of excellence, self-motivation, accountability, and formal recruitment policies. This system is backed by a program that offers recognition of exceptional performance by both managers and peers, and Years of Service awards presented to employees for their dedication to Lexi-Comp.

Steven Kerscher, president and COO, understands the importance of open communication and credibility in leadership. He comments, "We view our people as our most valuable resource, and the key to taking our company to the next level. Providing opportunities for involvement, consistently focusing on our goals, and clearly communicating how we're doing along the way allows everyone to be part of the success."

Employees have multiple channels for providing feedback and receiving corporate communication, such as a Policy and Culture Committee, monthly company meetings, frequent company forums held by the president, a corporate Intranet for submitting comments and suggestions anonymously, and a quarterly company newsletter. A corporate-wide "open door" policy encourages employees to share ideas, participate in new programs, and feel part of the company's growth.

New Unannounced Inspections Scare Hospitals; EquipSystems Prepares Facilities to Maintain the Highest Standards

New Unannounced Inspections Scare Hospitals; EquipSystems Prepares Facilities to Maintain the Highest Standards

Large organizations rely on specialized services like EquipSystems to provide cost savings and better service than in-house alternatives. Hospitals are big businesses, and keeping facilities clean 24x7 is now an even bigger priority in the New York metro area, due to some new JCAHO regulations. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) will begin making unannounced inspection visits to hospitals starting January 2006. This change is intended to ensure that facilities are maintaining mandatory levels of cleanliness and safety all year long. Hospitals that hire EquipSystems to clean their non-electrical rolling stock have less to worry about in regards to the new visit schedule. They can also better allocate their time and money to more critical and urgent healthcare services.

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) March 26, 2005

Hospitals will now need to be more vigilant than ever when it comes to the cleanliness of their equipment and facilities. JCAHO, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, has announced that their hospital inspectors will begin making unannounced visits. 2005 is a transition year – hospitals may volunteer for the unannounced visits which will become mandatory beginning in January 2006. This news has many healthcare facilities in a state of panic – how will they maintain the highest levels of cleanliness for their patients each and every day?

For the past 51 years, JCAHO has announced their inspections, allowing hospital management to prepare for their visits. In response to an industry-wide demand for improvement, the new unannounced JCAHO inspections force hospitals to consistently maintain a clean and safe Environment of Care for patients. Hospitals must now uphold a high level of cleanliness and safety 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Most hospitals will need to address the level of care they currently provide for their patients. Even some of the most well-known hospitals in the U. S. have been known to go to drastic measures to elude inspectors and pass JCAHO regulations. Without advance warning of visits, hospitals canÂ’t hide anymore.

Maintaining the level of excellence needed to pass JCAHO or DPH inspections will be difficult for hospitals already dealing with deficits, budget gaps and insufficient staffing. Management must focus on the hospitalÂ’s core services and there just is not enough time or money to devote to in-house cleaning that will pass the demanding new inspection schedule. A cost effective, value adding alternative, is outsourcing.

EquipSystems

EquipSystems is unbelievably, the only company of its type in the U. S. – a hospital equipment management and care company that maintains non-electrical hospital rolling stock. EquipSystems is not only a trusted industry partner, but also a solution to the changing market environment and new inspection schedule.

Many hospitals have been employing EquipSystems to complement their in-house efforts for decades. When hospitals partner with EquipSystems on a programmatic basis, administration and staff can be confident that JCAHO inspectors will find their equipment well maintained, safe and clean. Proper equipment care reduces the potential for nosocomial infections and injuries, saves hospitals money, and increases labor efficiency. EquipSystems can reduce equipment maintenance costs, increase the depreciable life of the equipment, and achieve higher asset utilization.

EquipSystems works at hospitals on-site, managing and cleaning items such as stretchers, wheel chairs, medicine carts and IV poles. Trained professionals use ultrasonic cleaning techniques on each piece of equipment. Debris in joints and wheels are removed, broken parts are repaired or replaced, and working parts are inspected and lubricated. EquipSystems provides customers with an online database to help manage the maintenance process and simplify record-keeping for regulatory agencies such as JCAHO and DPH.

“We help hospitals manage their inventory. Equipment like wheelchairs and stretchers are a concern in hospitals. Everyone uses them, yet it is not always clear who, if anyone, is responsible for them,” says EquipSystems president, Chris Wilkerson. “EquipSystems is a crucial partner for hospitals in today’s budget conscious environment. Hospital staff and administration will see a direct impact on their facility, and a return on their investment. The new unannounced inspections are a problem for many hospitals. We are the solution. The goal is to improve the Environment of Care for patients - the ones who really matter in the medical industry,” says Wilkerson.

EquipSystems is a hospital equipment management and care company based in Brooklyn, New York, that has been servicing the top hospitals in the Northeast for the past twenty years, with customers throughout Boston, metro New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Washington, D. C. The marked success and continuous growth of EquipSystems provides a testament to the value of the services they provide. For more information, please visit www. equipsystems. com.

Mexico City's Excelsior Implements K4 Publishing System

Mexico City's Excelsior Implements K4 Publishing System

First Latin American K4 site is also the world's largest installation at a daily newspaper.

(PRWEB) July 19, 2006

SoftCare GmbH today announced that Mexico City's Excelsior newspaper has purchased the K4 Publishing System, making it the first publisher in Latin America to implement the popular editorial software. Excelsior's landmark decision exemplifies K4's continually growing influence in the publishing industry, throughout different markets as well as in different parts of the world.

More than 8,900 users in 14 countries across the globe already use the K4 Publishing System from SoftCare. With the help of MEI distribution partner Informatica Dalai SA de CV, Excelsior will deploy 160 seats for its own system, the largest K4 implementation at any newspaper in the world. Until now, the largest daily newspaper installation has been Vedomosty in Russia, with approximately 100 users.

"K4 was the ideal solution for the most complex editorial project happening in Mexico in recent history," said Alexandro Medrano, Operations Subdirector for Excelsior. "Turnaround time and the service quality of K4's local distributor, Dalai, were outstanding and met 100 percent of our expectations. That's something unheard about most other publishing technology suppliers."

Daniel Moreno, Editorial Director for Excelsior, was impressed with the fast-paced pilot installation, which started from scratch and reached full K4 production in just 20 days, including planning, implementation, configuration, training and follow-up. "The K4 Publishing System was the indispensable instrument to assemble and successfully launch such a challenging and big project as this one in record time," Moreno said. "Dalai's deployment team worked great to meet the demands and complexity of the situation."

Founded by journalist Rafael Alducin in 1917, Excelsior was one of the largest and most influential daily newspapers in Latin America for several decades. In February 2006, the paper was bought and re-launched by renowned healthcare, tourism and multimedia conglomerate Grupo Angeles, headed by Olegario Vázquez Raña and his son Olegario Vázquez Aldir. At that time, Vázquez Raña announced that the paper's re-launch would coincide with its 89th anniversary in March; with the help of K4, this goal was accomplished despite the short amount of time available.

Birgit Rosenthal, Director of Business Development at SoftCare, said the company is excited about the first Latin American K4 sale. "We're happy to see such a large newspaper installation, because it demonstrates the system's power and flexibility," she said. "K4 is widely accepted as a secure standard publishing solution for all kinds of publications such as magazines, newspapers, books and corporate publishing; some of the companies that use K4 include Hearst Magazines, Conde Nast and Hubert Burda Media."

Along with its K4 purchase, Excelsior also added MEI's Page Director Advertising Layout System (ALS) to its production workflow. ALS is the fast, intelligent ad dummying software used by more newspapers worldwide than any other competing system. ALS simplifies the ad layout process by interpreting information from a front-end system and automatically placing ads on pages, allowing control over numerous attributes such as editorial and advertising requirements, color press configurations and conflict management.

About SoftCare and K4

SoftCare was founded in 1990 and is a leading developer of workflow solutions for the publishing industry, helping magazine, newspaper and book publishers work more efficiently. With its multi-level security controls, open SQL architecture and robust customization options, K4 supports a transparent and secure production workflow for individual workgroups or entire publishing enterprises. K4 has been successfully implemented at sites ranging from 10 to more than 1,000 users. K4 supports Mac OS X and Windows clients in mixed-platform environments. May Pang's INSTAMATIC KARMA Hits Bookstores Today

May Pang's INSTAMATIC KARMA Hits Bookstores Today

May Pang shares 150 personal photographs of John Lennon taken during their relationship in the mid 1970s. These photos, taken during Lennon's "lost weekend," finally shed light on this period of Lennon's life.

New York, NY, (PRWEB) March 4, 2008

May Pang, former girlfriend of Beatles legend John Lennon, has released INSTAMATIC KARMA (St. Martins Press), a book of 150 photographs taken during their time together in the period that has become known as Lennon's "lost weekend."

Their 18-month relationship, spanning July 1973 through February 1975, was initiated by Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono. In addition to the photos, Pang provides narratives and captions that take the reader to the time and place of each photo.

Upon Lennon's insistence, Pang was able to capture some poignant and historical moments -- such as photos of Lennon signing the official documents ending the Beatles, the last known photo taken with Paul McCartney, photos with Ringo Starr and Lennon's first son, Julian, who Lennon hadn't seen in four years.

Cynthia Lennon, Lennon's first wife, and Julian Lennon, give the book a resounding endorsement and she credits Pang with reuniting father and son.

The book consists of color, black & white, and more casual Polaroid photos.

Although Lennon's "lost weekend" is often glossed over in Beatle history, it was the most prolific period of Lennon's solo career. In addition to his hit albums Mind Games, Rock 'N' Roll, and the #1 Walls and Bridges, Lennon worked with Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Elton John. Lennon's last major concert appearance was Thanksgiving 1974 when he appeared with Elton John and performed his only #1 single, Whatever Gets You Thru The Night.

Far from the misery Lennon professed during this time, these photos depict a content, healthy and playful man who was on top of his game.

Says Pang, "As I started going through these photos, the memories of our happy -- and sometimes zany -- time together came back, opening up a floodgate of emotions, from happiness to sadness and back to happiness. I feel these images bring John back to life."

Today, Pang lives in New York with her two children. In 2004, she launched a Feng Shui jewelry and furniture line which is available on her web site, www. maypang. com.

Pang is available for radio, television and print interviews. Contact Stephen Lee at St. Martins for bookings.

Animal Expert Offers Pet Flood Safety Suggestions

Animal Expert Offers Pet Flood Safety Suggestions

(PRWEB) January 12, 2005

When disaster hits the mountains of southern California it is serious business. Only three highways lead in and out of the Big Bear Valley and this week's storms have created havoc.

In October of 2003 wildfires closed two of those roads down. In January of 2005 all three highways closed and numerous other threats endangered residents and visitors to the southern California mountain resort.

According to mountain resident and author Diana L. Guerrero, "The main problem is that people were not prepared for such severe weather systems. This time of year we have a heavy load of visitors and their lack of understanding towards drastic changes in weather conditions and navigating in them complicates matters."

Lack of preparation and understanding translated into two hundred cars stranded on an area of road called the "Arctic Circle." A tour bus, failing to heed chain restrictions, blocked the highway and put motorists at further risk to mud and rock slides. Heavy snow and ice required snow cat rescues and the evacuation of motorists who were then housed in emergency quarters in the valley. The highway remains blocked until those vehicles can be removed.

Fawnskin mountain residents were isolated when flood waters covered the highway. Downed trees and slides blocked alternate routes out. Roads turned to rushing rivers.

In Big Bear Lake and other areas the snow berms, walls of ice created by workers clearing snow from the main roads, formed channels for water, flooded roads and cut deep into the asphalt.

The torrential currents flooded areas and blocked drains--contributing to the flooding of businesses. Heavy snow, followed by rain, collapsed roofs and inflicted water damage to public buildings.

Abandoned cars also posed problems. Guerrero said, "Unfortunately people do not realize the risk that deep snow or moving water poses. Cars attempting to cross the deep torrents often stall and create more problems by blocking the roads and creating the need for motorist rescue. People attempting to drive on roads covered in knee deep snow stranded themselves, blocking an alternate route, and created a heavier load for emergency service personnel."

But the mountain residents were not the only people impacted by the recent storm conditions. The recent flooding across California impacted humans but it also created devastating problems for animals.

Guerrero said, "Pet owners and animal professionals can take steps to insure pet safety and avoid serious problems before the threat of disaster, specifically flooding, impacts their homes or businesses."

Guerrero is the author of the booklet, "Animal Disaster Preparedness for Pet Owners & Pet Professionals" and is one of the contributing editors to "Resources for Crisis Management in Zoos and Other Animal Care Facilities." In addition to her written works, she holds numerous certifications in the animal disaster field from groups such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

"In any disaster, people should keep close tabs on their animals. They shouldn't be left outdoors in these type of conditions and pets need to be monitored. If a situation is unsafe for humans it is unsafe for animals."

Guerrero continued. "Alternate flood plans should include escape areas for animals so they have access to higher elevations. Animals are not usually allowed in human emergency shelters due to health precautions and limited space. So plug into an animal network through your local shelters and community rescue groups. If you are not sure what these are ask community leaders and the animal agencies in your area for direction."

In her experience, flood animal rescuers find critters hoarse from crying for help. She stressed that people in flood prone areas need to take precautions--and those plans should include include animal evacuation and safety.

"When people evacuate they need to take their animals because they usually won't have a second chance to go back to get them. Contingency plans for when they are away from home are essential, too."

Guerrero's animal disaster booklet, now in the seventh edition, offers tips to prepare prior to a disaster, how to form or get involved in a animal disaster preparedness network, and what items to include in kits for dogs, cats, horses, and birds. Guerrero also includes tip sheets for behavior, identification, health, diet, and sanitation for multiple species during a disaster.

The booklet ends with a section on post disaster animal behavior and list valuable resources for the pet owner including animal disaster agencies, where to get training, and suppliers of kits and equipment.

Guerrero's pet flood safety suggestions are:

-Take your animals with you! Pets that are released or left behind often become victims of flood waters, contaminated food or water, or exposure to the elements.

-Make sure animals have waterproof ID tags on them.

-Three weeks of supplies is not excessive for humans or pets.

-Proof of current vaccinations will be required for housing animals in many rescue facilities. Make sure you have copies stored in a waterproof container with other supplies so you don't forget to take them.

-Maintain current photos of your property and animals.

-Place pet rescue decals on a window or door to alert rescue personnel to the presence of critters.

-Make sure you have a plan that is effective during the times when you are separated from your pets.

-Do not tether or restrain animals when floods waters threaten your area.

-Check for evacuation plans at your stable or form a network with other facilities.

-Storm surges and flood threats mean that you need to provide a way for critters to escape and climb to safety. This does not mean turning them loose! Make sure livestock have access to higher ground.

-Use wire crates to transport and house smaller animals since they provide better ventilation and fold up easily for storage and transport.

-Don't create a hazard by trying to forge through flooded streets with moving water.

-Return home only after authorities advise that it is safe to return.

-Use caution when returning home and walking on higher ground since insects, snakes, and other animals may have found refuge there.

-Stressed animals often avoid food and exhibit other behavior abnormalities. Allow them to adjust and refrain from reinforcing abnormal behavior.

-Post flood threats include mosquitos and other vectors. Check with local veterinarians for preventative medical tips.

Dr. Sears Launches "Toxic Fat" in Canada; New Book Says: If You're Fat, it's Not your Fault

Dr. Sears Launches "Toxic Fat" in Canada; New Book Says: If You're Fat, it's Not your Fault

Visiting Canada to launch his new book, Toxic Fat, Dr. Barry Sears says "To lose weight and keep it off requires rebalancing of hormonal signals in the brain." The founder of MedWell Foods rose to fame with his breakthrough New York Times #1 Bestseller, The Zone.

Toronto (PRWEB) October 28, 2008

Bestselling author Dr. Barry Sears is telling Canadians "If you're fat, it's not your fault," during his visit to Canada to launch his latest book, Toxic Fat (http://www. toxicfatthebook. com): When Good Fat Turns Bad.

In Canada to discuss Toxic Fat (http://medwell123.com), Dr. Sears said, "Being overweight isn't due to a lack of willpower; the problem lies in your genes. When you understand obesity from the perspective of being similar to a cancer, you realize why 'eating less and exercising more' may never work for permanent weight loss."

Dr. Sears (http://medwell123.com)' first book, The Zone, was a breakthrough international hit and was #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers List.

Toxic Fat describes the Perfect Nutritional Storm that has given rise to a current obesity epidemic. Our pro-inflammatory diet has caused activation of a fat-trap in genetically predisposed individuals and increases hunger by changing brain hormone levels that override normal appetite suppression," he said.

A research scientist, Dr. Sears said, "The toxic fat in our bodies is the underlying cause of increased inflammation and a dietary balance of protein, carbohydrate and fat can alter the hormonal responses that control inflammation."

"Losing weight and keeping it off requires rebalancing of hormonal signals in the brain. We need to look at foods we eat as powerful drugs that can either reduce or increase inflammation. Reducing inflammation can be as simple as 1-2-3. For every one gram of fat, you should eat two grams of protein and three grams of carbohydrates as best you can at every meal."

Dr. Sears founded MedWell Foods, offering MedWell 1-2-3 healthy comfort foods people like to eat, including pasta, pastries, bagels, bread and cookies, each with a 1-2-3 composition coupled with great taste. Toxic fat is the underlying cause of increased inflammation, and thus MedWell Foods can help provide a dietary solution that is easily incorporated into everyone's current dietary habits. Research of Human Growth Hormones and the Astonishing findings by Daniel Rudman M. D

Research of Human Growth Hormones and the Astonishing findings by Daniel Rudman M. D.

The Medical Profession have gone into a lot of research over the last 50 years into exactly what Human Growth Hormones are and exactly how they affect your overall health and well-being. The facts and figures speak for them selves.

(PRWEB) April 14, 2005

The New England Journal of Medicine published the clinical findings of Daniel Rudman, MD, regarding his hgh human growth hormone research on the anti-aging effects of hgh. His findings were astonishing.

Dr. Rudman studied patients age 61 to 81 at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After six months, Dr. Rudman observed a reversal of the aging process from 10 to 20 years in the patients who received hgh injections. But in the control group (those who didn't receive hgh), the normal aging process continued.

Other hgh human growth hormone research clinical studies performed over the past 30 years have demonstrated that hgh can allow users to lose fat, build muscle mass, improve sexual performance, remove wrinkles, eliminate cellulite, and increase immune function when taken through intra-muscular injections. Hgh is the master hormone which is secreted by the pituitary gland and is responsible for directly and indirectly balancing the body's critical hormones.

A recent outcome based hgh human growth hormone research study revealed that 75% of subjects experienced a 41% average increase in IGF-1 levels (an indicator of growth hormone levels). In addition, there was lowered cholesterol in an average of 11% in 90% of the cases, and 80% of the subjects experienced an average 29% reduction in tryglicerides (fat), reflecting better overall health.

HDS Article: Signage Can Display Terrorism Status Alerts

HDS Article: Signage Can Display Terrorism Status Alerts

HomelandDefenseStocks. com ‘Electronic Signage Networks’ Report: “From Advertising to Terrorist Alerts and First Responders – Keeping the Public Informed”.

Point Roberts, WA (PRWEB) February 17, 2005

www. HomelandDefenseStocks. com (HDS) and www. BorderAndPortSecurity. com (BPS), investor news portals for the Homeland Defense and Security Sectors, are pleased to offer investors an exclusive report regarding the current use of, and demand for Digital and Electronic Signage Networks.

Electronic Signage Networks (ESN) are LED, LCD, or plasma based screen display solutions that are utilized within the Homeland Defense sector in airports, borders, ports, highways, and other public areas to inform and manage crowds of people during emergency or disaster scenarios. Electronic Signage Display solutions are in high demand for use by first responders, firefighters in building stairwells for example, or by law enforcement officers at the scene of road accidents or traffic related incidents. ESN are also in demand in the commercial sector for their high degree of efficiency in distributing and managing local and nationwide visual advertising campaigns and public information distribution.

The HDS and BPS websites do not make recommendations, but offer a unique free information portal to research news, exclusive articles, interviews, investor conferences and a growing list of participating public companies in the sector.

HomelandDefenseStocks. com featured profiled companies: OnScreen Technologies (OTCBB: ONSC) and Markland Technologies (OTCBB: MRKL). (HDS is compensated by companies as disclosed in disclaimer below)

Article Excerpt: Electronic Signage Networks within Homeland Defense: Keeping the Public Visually Informed

By Brian Eriksen Noer, HomelandDefenseStocks. com

February 2005

In North America today, an informed public is a high priority. Throughout the Homeland Defense, commercial, and corporate sectors, displaying visual messages in a timely, efficient, and highly controllable manner is a much sought after and therefore profitable enterprise. Many companies within the Electronic Signage Networks (ESN) industry are currently developing and supplying solutions that work hard to incorporate the indispensable elements of: ease of use, portability, effectiveness, diversity of usage, and extreme manageability.

Companies like NEC Solutions (NASDAQ: NIPNY), OnScreen Technologies (OTCBB: ONSC), Sarnoff Corporation, Markland Technologies (OTCBB: MRKL), Panasonic (the North American headquarters of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. - NYSE: MC) and Automated Digital Signage Networks, Inc. all provide either complete signage solutions or products that enable the distribution and eventual public display of information and data more efficiently.

“We think that the plasma display market in general will show a healthy rate of growth over the next few years, especially on the consumer side,” said Keith Yanke, product marketing manager with NEC Solutions (America), Inc. “The commercial sector, specifically digital signage, is also healthy. Judging by our market research data and client feedback, we expect 2005 to be a very good year for digital signage.”

Leslie Wherett, Marketing and Creative Manager with Panasonic Corporate Systems Company, agreed quoting a study by The Digital Signage Directory, stating that the market is poised to increase by 300% in the next five years. Wherett attributes this phenomenal increase to the fact that, “point of purchase sales increase by about one and a half times in a retail outlet utilizing digital signage.”

“We have to reverse the dumbing of our highways and consciously build a more intelligent roadway system,” said Steve Velte, President of Product Division with OnScreen Technologies. “This segment of the market is showing robust, almost double digit gains, which is impressive at a time when a lot of technology spending is down.”

Progressive Book Club Chooses Lionel Shriver's So Much For That as November 2010 PBC Pick

Progressive Book Club Chooses Lionel Shriver's So Much For That as November 2010 PBC Pick

Progressive Book Club, the on-line liberal literary portal, is pleased to announce that its November PBC Pick is Lionel Shriver’s So Much for That, newly selected as a finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction. Rare is a work of fiction that enlarges our understanding of a central question in American life. Rarer still is the publication of such a timely and relevant book by a writer more celebrated for her brilliance abroad than in her own country – until now.

New York City (PRWEB) November 5, 2010

Progressive Book Club (http://www. progressivebookclub. com), the on-line liberal literary portal, is pleased to announce that its November PBC Pick is Lionel Shriver’s So Much for That, newly selected as a finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction.

Rare is a work of fiction that enlarges our understanding of a central question in American life. Rarer still is the publication of such a timely and relevant book by a writer more celebrated for her brilliance abroad than in her own country – until now.

PBC’s editors are thrilled to present So Much for That as the club’s latest choice because its compelling prose and engaging characters illuminate the terrible contradictions of American health care – with a surprisingly uplifting story.

"With a resurgent Republican Party whose battle cry is 'repeal Obamacare,' it is critical that we remind ourselves of the continuing stakes," explained PBC's CEO, Elizabeth Wagley

A provocative, darkly comical and moving literary achievement, So Much for That challenges our nation's core assumptions about marriage, family, and the American Dream. With a harrowing storyline and sympathetic characters, Shriver’s novel deepens our empathy for those with serious illness facing challenges of the failing economy and health-care system.

New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani applauds So Much for That as a “visceral and deeply affecting story… about how illness affects people’s relationships, and how their efforts to grapple with mortality reshape the arcs of their lives…. (Shriver’s) understanding of her people is so intimate, so unsentimental…it lofts these characters permanently into the reader’s imagination.”

So Much For That is the 29th PBC Pick for Progressive Book Club since the club’s launch in June 2008. Other selections have included The Backlash by Will Bunch, Food Matters by Mark Bittman, Netherland, by Joseph O’Neil, The Big Short, by Michael Lewis, The Way of the World by Ron Suskind, The Green Collar Economy by Van Jones, The Power of Progress John Podesta, Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, True Compass, By Edward M. Kennedy, Our Choice by Al Gore, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson, and The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.

About Progressive Book Club

Progressive Book Club finds and promotes books that can change America, harnessing the power of the Internet to create an important new platform for progressive authors and ideas. Californian Develops Hand-Held 'Personal' Food Tester to Enable Healthy Eating Habits

Californian Develops Hand-Held 'Personal' Food Tester to Enable Healthy Eating Habits

VitaScan from Percolator Works pre-tests a personÂ’s tolerance to food and beverages for health reasons.

Watsonville, CA (PRWEB) October 27, 2004

Today, Percolator Works Scientist and Biofeedback pioneer, Buryl Payne, Ph. D. and London-born technologist, Peter Mackeonis announced the availability of the VitaScan, an innovative hand-held instrument for testing an individual’s tolerance to foods and beverages – even to electronics, such as cellphones.

The brain of the VitaScan is an electronically controlled 'pressure pad' which establishes a pre and post exposure reading to substances. “In simple terms, the VitaScan pre-reads the body’s reaction, using a proprietary version of Applied Kinesiology,” said Dr. Payne “and this is so important in today’s cancer-scare world of fast food additives, dubious vitamin supplements and prescription drugs, with so many unwanted side effects.” Mackeonis commented that, “anyone who is interested in their health would greatly benefit from using the VitaScan to test their body's reaction to such food items as white sugar, bleached flour, vitamins, coffee, alcohol, and various meats and vegetables. They will not be disappointed.”

The VitaScan is the first in a range of ‘Advanced Technology’ Personal Care Products to be launched by Payne and Mackeonis over the next twelve months, and they are interested in talking to distributors for their products.

VitaScan Personal Food Testers are available from PercolatorWorks on the web at http://www. percolator. com/VitaScan/ for $199 a unit.

Dr. Buryl Payne and Peter Mackeonis can be emailed at mackeonis@percolator. com, or contacted by phone at 831.840.3729 or by mail at Percolator Works 614 Brewington Avenue, Watsonville, CA 95076
