When the Andersons do national media interviews about the importance of animal rescue, the questions often arise: With spiraling costs of rebuilding after disasters, should federal money be spent on saving animals in the future? Does the PETS Act put animals above people?



Allen Anderson answers, “When you rescue a pet you save an entire family. Katrina survivors told us that they lost everything but when they reunited with their pets, it gave them hope that they could recover. There has been a disconnect between policy makers and millions of people who would no more leave their pets behind in an emergency than they would abandon any other family member. People will endanger themselves or return in hazardous conditions to keep pets safe. Rescuers risk their lives trying to save survivors who wouldn't evacuate without their pets. Animal rescuers have to search through ravaged and infested areas for abandoned dogs and cats. The costs in human life and the expenses of disaster rescue increase with every pet that is not evacuated.”



The PETS Act was introduced by Representatives Tom Lantos (D-Calif.) and Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) and co-sponsored by Representative James Oberstar (D-Minn.), among others, just as animal rescue operations were in full swing along the Gulf Coast. With fresh images of abandoned pets and bereft people, the House passed its version of the bill by a vote of 394 to 24. In August the Senate overwhelmingly passed an amended version. On September 20, the House unanimously approved the Senate-amended bill, allowing it to be sent to President Bush for signing into law.



A recent survey conducted by Best Friends Animal Society showed that 70 percent of pet owners view animals as family members. A Zogby International study found that 44 percent of those who refused to leave the Gulf Coast before and after Hurricane Katrina remained because they wouldn't abandon their pets. Since 66 percent of American homes have pets, the relationships between people and animals have evolved into ones in which pets are viewed as children, friends, and protectors.



With pets fulfilling emotional, physical, and health or service needs, animal rescue has come to fruition as a vital social movement and a necessity. Seven thousand animal organizations with 10,000,000 members represent and fight for legislation that addresses the concerns and values of animal lovers nationwide. More Americans retire in Mexico, according to Latin American Home Investment, as the cost of real estate and medical services continue to dip below comparable homes and services in the U. S.

The program is being developed for international television broadcast by documentary filmmakers Amy Steelman-Angeli and Lou Angeli, whose recent "Bound By Courage" chronicled the rescue and recovery effort at Ground Zero. As former firefighter/EMT's, the couple specializes in programming dealing with the emergency services, and includes the ride-along series, "Beyond The Yellow Tape".

"Whirlybirds 2003" follows the progression of rotary wing aviation over the past 50 years, and highlights the various missions of helicopters through dramatic reenactments, sound bites with industry professionals and never before seen footage.



"This is the first program in a number of years, that is dedicated solely to helicopters and their vital missions," says producer Amy Steelman-Angeli. "...and we believe that the show (also) serves as a special tribute to the men and women who fly them." The program will be broadcast in 2003 as part of a special commemoration of the 100th anniversary of aviation.



"We've been working with hospital-based air med-evac providers to illustrate the features of air medevac programs," says co producer and videographer, Lou Angeli. "Our plan is to demonstrate how medical helicopters squeeze the timeline by allowing seriously ill or injured patients to make it to definitive health care..." before the golden hour expires.



Other scenarios, which are scheduled for the show, include news gathering, firefighting, air rescue, law enforcement, and sport recreation. "We also wish to thank the aviation community for helping us bring this important story to the screen," says Amy, whose work includes reality television and documentaries. The team's Fire-Rescue footage is seen on TV networks worldwide, and is featured in an upcoming episode of NBC's "The West Wing."

Don’t rub it too hard, or you could damage the healing process. For the first few days, you should avoid using soap as well.

After 5 – 6 days, you can quit using the ointment. A&D ointment will keep your tattoo healthy, which you’ll notice the first time you apply it. After you stop using it, you should use an unscented body lotion. You want to avoid body lotions that have scents, as they can easily irritate the tender skin that resides under your tattoo.

After you have used the lotion for a few days, you can stop using it. Most tattoos, after they have healed, tend to leave a scab in some areas. If your tattoo has a scab, you should be careful when you try to pick it. If you aren’t careful, you could end up damaging your design. The best thing to do is you have a scab is to leave it alone. You can put A&D ointment on it if you want, as most of the time a scab will itch.

A tattoo can be a great thing to have providing you take care of it. Tattoos will stay with your for the rest of your life, unless you choose to get them surgically removed. Taking care of your tattoo now will keep it healthy and infection free in the long run. If you follow the above advice on how to take care of your tattoo – you won’t have anything to worry about.
