Dallas-based Environmental Company Releases New Line of Organic Soil Conditioners

Dallas-based Environmental Company Releases New Line of Organic Soil Conditioners

Natural Environmental Systems, LLC announces the release of the TerraVive line of humic acid soil conditioners.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) September 16, 2008

Dallas based Natural Environmental Systems, LLC announces the release of its new TerraVive line of humic acid soil conditioners.

Humic acid (http://www. naturalenviro. com/sections. php? section=HumicAcid) is extracted from organic humus, which are complex natural organic compounds that originated during the decomposition of plant and animal residues by microorganisms, under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, in soils, composts, peat bogs, and water basins.

Humic acid has been found to have many benefits to all types of soil (clay or sand) as well as to most all plant life. Benefits include:

Addition of organic matter to organically-deficient soils Increase root vitality Improved nutrient uptake Increased chlorophyll synthesis Better seed germination Increased fertilizer retention Stimulate beneficial microbial activity Healthier plants and improved yields

The ability of humic acid to improve the water holding capacity of soil and allow for better root penetration, while also unlocking previously unavailable nutrients and micro-nutrients, making them available to the plant makes it an ideal complement to traditional or organic fertilizer programs, as the improved quality of the soil will allow for better use of the fertilizer and less waste due to leaching.

Additionally, the stimulation of microbial activity by the humic acid helps to create a thriving microflora capable of constantly building additional humus within the soil, efficiently solubilizing nutrients like phosphorous and continuously improving the soil structure.

"This is an exciting addition to our product line. With the rising costs of fertilizer and nitrogen, a product like TerraVive that can improve the fertilizer programs and even reduce the amount of fertilizing necessary will be very valuable, particularly for farmers and ranchers who have a lot of acreage to treat," states Casey Coke of Natural Environmental Systems.

TerraVive is formulated as a 16% concentrated liquid and as a 92% concentrated dissolvable powder, both of which are available with an additional inoculation of beneficial soil microorganisms to further enhance the localized microbial activity. Due to a modification process TerraVive has complete solubility in both acid and alkaline medium. This feature makes it highly compatible with most tank mixes, liquid fertilizers and micronutrient formulations. It also makes it ideally suited for drip irrigation or fertigation applications where undissolved insoluble particles cannot be tolerated

For more information on TerraVive, visit http://www. naturalenviro. com (http://www. naturalenviro. com) or call 1-800-999-9345

Day of the Dead Buddha design

This is a work in progress for possible chest piece that I may actually go for one of these days. In keeping with the advice I got as far as what I should do if I want to get into tattooing...the answer? "Get lots of tattoos!"

I am definitely learning a lot this way. Spending time in a tattoo shop, watching other people getting tattoos, and watching carefully as mine get done, I am really learning a lot!

New work on my right arm sleeve tattoo for Brother John

I just got back from another session with Dave at The Dutchman Tattoos in Vancouver. He did about 3.5 hours of intense deep shading on the already existing line work that he did last time. I expected him to get farther along, but he is really digging in to the shading, adding a LOT of amazing details, really working it.

The newer work really blends beautifully with the piece Dave did last year on the top of my forearm.

The area around the spinal cord has an amazing amount of detail, the black areas behind the boney bits have another whole level of subtle designs working in the black areas....

This session left my arm very, very red with inflammation. Interestingly, a lot of people have said they really like the red colour, and I am considering asking Dave to add some red after the black shading has healed.

Has Agel Really Created the iPod of the Health and Wellness Industry?

Has Agel Really Created the iPod of the Health and Wellness Industry?

Visionary leaders share "The Top 3 Ways You Can Benefit From Agel and Its Revolutionary Gel Suspension Technology, Even If You Didn’t Go To Harvard" in a special audio feature on www. GelDiamonds. com.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 16, 2006

While there is a new company every month claiming to be the "Next Billion Dollar Giant" in the network marketing industry, Agel Enterprises’ ambitions go well beyond that. But is Agel really the next Microsoft or the iPod of the Nutritional Industry as many health experts and MLM insiders predict? With hindsight, wouldn’t anyone have invested in Microsoft, Wal-Mart or NuSkin when they were just starting their growth phase? According to visionary leaders Randy Schroeder and Luc Andria of www. GelDiamonds. com, there are 3 main reasons why Agel is shattering all industry records and why now is the time the world should take a serious look at this fast-moving health and wellness company.

"Almost everyone knows of companies like Ebay, Dell, Yahoo and Microsoft and their success stories," Luc Andria notes. "But if you look at the actual market response Agel Gelceuticals received with their revolutionary Gel Suspension Technology, it is absolutely amazing: the company made more in its first month in business than most start-ups make in their first three years. And now Agel Enterprises is on track to reach $100 million in sales after just one year. This has never been done by any other company before – but more about all that and the ambitious launch plans for Europe and India at the next Agel World Convention in September… That's right, Agel is growing faster than Yahoo, Dell, Microsoft, even eBay, and is perfectly positioned to capitalize on the biggest trends of the 21st century."

With his impressive track record in network marketing and financial services, Randy Schroeder is a living legend. He has earned in excess of $24 million in his MLM career spanning two decades. Randy is now leading Agel and the "Gel Diamonds" into becoming the fastest growing and most exciting health and wellness network marketing company ever, and may even be "writing one of the greatest success stories in the history of business."

Randy Schroeder undertook a thorough due diligence of the health and nutritional supplements market and the Agel business opportunity. His findings and "The Top 3 Ways You Can Benefit From Agel and Its Revolutionary Gel Suspension Technology…" can be found in a special audio feature at www. GelDiamonds. com/agel/ipod (http://www. GelDiamonds. com/agel/ipod).

Harvard MBA Luc Andria, founder of www. GelDiamonds. com, shared a common background with Randy Schroeder in the financial and health industry and decided to align himself with Randy’s network marketing vision. Luc is one of a team of proven leaders who recognized the special nature of the Agel opportunity -- he is a perfect example of the "New Professionals", a generation of new leadership entering the network marketing arena: professional people, affluent people with options, as well as first time entrepreneurs seeking to break through to a new era of personal and financial success with Agel.

Luc Andria added, "With all the marketing hype in the MLM and health supplements industry today, it’s important to listen to Randy Schroeder’s simple yet compelling message. I found him a real inspiration and a true giant in the field of mentoring. I encourage as many people as possible to get this information. Whether they are in one of the 18 existing markets or in Europe and India which are opening very soon, I am confident they will understand the importance of this moment: a special opportunity now exists for you to participate with us at the genesis of Agel. This session is recorded, and posted on our public website for anyone to hear or download. We also posted the full audio transcript for easy reference."

Debenhams First with Disabled High Street Model

Debenhams First with Disabled High Street Model

Debenhams has become the first high street retailer to use disabled models in its campaign photography.

London, UK (PRWEB) February 28, 2010

Debenhams is the first high street retailer to break the taboo of using disabled models in campaign photography.

Following an approach by Nikki Fox and Natasha Wood, both disability campaigners and presenters of the hit TV show 'How to Look Good Naked', Shannon Murray will appear in photography in the stores windows and online. Shannon, 32, has been confined to a wheelchair since breaking her neck in her teens

Shannon will join three other models appearing in imagery to promote the recently launched Principles by Ben de Lisi range which prides itself on its inclusivity. Joining Shannon will be Kate Fullman, a size 16 model, Tess Montgomery, a petite 5'4" model and Tokumbo Daniel, a size 10 model. The Principles clothing (http://www. debenhams. com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10001_135110_-1 (http://www. debenhams. com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10001_135110_-1)) range starts at size 8 and goes up to size 20 with a specific petite clothing (http://www. debenhams. com/women/petite (http://www. debenhams. com/women/petite)) offering.

Unlike other high street stores, Debenhams is showing an increasing willingness to inject some variety into the people modelling its clothes. The campaign follows hot on the heels of the retailer using size 16 mannequins in its windows.

Michael Sharp, Debenhams' Deputy Chief Executive said: "We cater for women of all shapes and sizes, young and old, non-disabled and disabled so we wanted our windows to reflect this choice.

"When Nikki and Natasha approached us with the idea, we didn't have to think twice. We are proud to be the first high street retailer to deliver this. We only wished we had done it sooner," concluded Sharp.

Nikki Fox praised the store for using Shannon in its campaign: "I am so happy and proud that Debenhams has used our disabled model for such a massive campaign." she said. "It's a really big deal. If seeing Shannon helps another disabled person, then we've done well."

Ben de Lisi added: "Every woman deserves to look good and feel special which is why there are styles to suit, fit and flatter every body shape in the new Principles range. I think that Shannon looks amazing."

Shannon Murray complemented the retailer for supporting disabled models: "I think this is a fabulous step forward by Debenhams and I'm proud to be part of such a big move towards positive representation of disability in high street fashion."

Gok Wan added: "We in the UK have the best high street in the world. It's a multi million pound industry that needs to recognise all shapes, sizes and disabilities. Filming 'How to Look Good Naked' has been a life changing experience for me, because I have learnt so much about a community I knew existed but have never been involved with.

"Debenhams is pushing the boundaries by producing the first ever disabled fashion campaign in conjunction with 'How to Look Good Naked', and I hope that one day disabilities will be recognised by every chain in the high street." Wan concluded.

The imagery won't be a one off. Debenhams says that it is committed to using disabled models in other photography. Already a second photo shoot is being organised and the retailer has also approached Premier Models to see if they could be the booking agent for disabled models for future campaigns.

Initially the images will be used in Debenhams' Glasgow, Guildford, Oxford Street and Nottingham branches with the intention of rolling out across all stores.

New Section on Sextant Properties Entitled "Living in France"

New Section on Sextant Properties Entitled "Living in France"

According to Matthieu Cany and Brice Bonato, Managing Directors of Sextant French Property Agents, their website needed more content to better help their customers in their search of a property in France.

London, UK (PRWEB) March 2, 2009

According to Matthieu Cany and Brice Bonato, Managing Directors of Sextant French Property Agents (http://www. sextantproperties. com), their website needed more content to better help their customers in their search of a property in France.

The previous version of the website already included several guides about the most popular regions of France. As time went by, more content has been added such as sub-region and town guides. Navigating on the Brittany (http://www. sextantproperties. com/brittany) pages now gives a pretty clear idea of the work achieved.

Having been in contact with customers purchasing properties in France (http://www. sextantproperties. com) for several years now, the directors decided to better answer the most common questions asked by their customers by developing a new section on the website called "Living in France". This section contains 12 main subjects:

Holidays: this page contains all the useful websites to look at for those looking to spend holidays in France as golfers, skiers or simply for people who are looking to enjoy the sun on a sandy beach. Insurance: this page describes the major aspects related to insurance in France (which is pretty similar to the UK). Lifestyle: this page describes the advantages to spend holidays in France or even better to move to a country well known for its food and wine culture.

Finance: customers might need to take a French mortgage (http://www. sextantproperties. com/french-mortgage) to buy a property; very often they will need to transfer money to France to secure the purchase. If they decide to retire to France, they can set up a regular pension transfer plan between the UK and France. Retiring to France: this is a very passionate subject, most people in the world dream to retire in a sunny place, and France is among the most popular destination for retirees. In this section, people looking to move on a permanent basis will find a lot of tips and useful information before the big leap. Work & Income: For those who are not lucky enough to be retired yet, they can find several ways to get a job in France such as working as a freelancer. In this section, there is some useful information that may help anyone thinking to work in France. Health: France is well known for its excellent healthcare system, this page explains how it works for people moving from abroad. Telephone & Internet: broadband availability is one of the most common questions asked by customers prior to a move in France. There is a link to a website which shows the different zones and access points. Renovation: This page contains a few tips and advice for adventurous people looking to buy a property in need of part or total renovation. Education: The French education system is pretty different to the British one; this page explains very precisely this complicated but efficient system and the different types of schools available. Learning French: Some British people who already moved to France manage to live there without speaking a single word of French. However, if they want to integrate in the local community, they better have to learn a few words of French! French people will be pleased to hear their foreign accent and to help them finding the right words. In this section, there is some information about the different ways to learn French. UK TV in France: British people very often wish to stay connected while they spend holidays or move permanently in France. Getting British channels in France has never been so easy. This section explains how to get UK TV while living in France.

The Sextant French Property team will continue to add more quality content within the next few months in order to become the reference in their field: the French Property (http://www. sextantproperties. com) market.

Nourishing People and Planet: Nutiva Puts Its Vision into Action for 2010

Nourishing People and Planet: Nutiva Puts Its Vision into Action for 2010

As Nutiva rounds its tenth year as a pioneering organic food brand, the firm is focused to meet its goals in the new year and new decade.

Santa Paula, CA (Vocus) January 12, 2010

As Nutiva rounds its tenth year as a pioneering organic food brand, the firm is focused to meet its goals in the new year and new decade.

According to Nutiva founder and CEO John W. Roulac, “2010 is the perfect year for people to switch to delicious organic hemp and coconut foods. Choosing Nutiva also supports the many beneficiaries of 1 percent of our company’s sales.”

Looking back to 2009, Roulac said that Nutiva thanks its customers for helping the brand achieve many milestones, including being named an Inc. 500/5000 fastest-growing brand, having Nutiva Coconut Oil rated by Amazon. com as their #1 most-requested organic and natural gift, and having Whoopie Goldberg taste Nutiva Hemp Oil on the NBC show The View.

Since 1999, said Roulac, the company’s core vision and tagline has been “Nourishing People and Planet”—in sharp contrast to mainstream food corporations that “abuse the land, exploit farmers, sell industrial goop as food, and receive huge subsidies from the federal government.”

Seeking to be part of the solution, Nutiva expresses its corporate citizenship by sourcing from fair-trade suppliers, supporting sustainable agriculture, planting 100,000 coconut palms, offering healthful organic hemp and coconut superfoods, and continuing to donate 1 percent of its sales to sustainable programs.

Healthy People

According to Roulac, the old adage “You are what you eat” holds true. Eating nutrient-dense certified-organic foods is key to vitality, he asserted. “The mighty hempseed is packed with 33 percent protein, and hemp oil has an ideal ratio of healthy Omega-3, GLA, and SDA fats. Most Americans are mineral-deficient, and hempseed is rich in the important mineral magnesium, used in over 300 biochemical processes. Just three tablespoons of Nutiva Shelled Hempseed or Hemp Protein supply half the daily need for magnesium. Hempseed is also rich in iron and zinc. Shelled hempseed looks like sesame seeds, tastes like sunflower seeds, and is ideal in smoothies or as a topping for salads, soups, oatmeal, or vegetables. Hemp oil makes a fine salad oil or can be drizzled on pasta or bread.”

And those looking for the worlds best cooking oil, said Roulac, need look no farther than Nutiva’s organic Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil. Nutritionists are starting to recognize the benefits of replacing Omega-6-laden corn and soy oils (which cause an Omega 3/6 imbalance) with coconut oil, which contains the beneficial medium-chain triglyceride lauric acid and is tasty in stir-fries or on toast, oatmeal, or yams.

“How many more trillions of dollars must we spend on “fixing health care” before our society wakes up from its slumber and chooses organic foods for a healthy lifestyle?” Roulac asked.

Giving Back

Since its founding in 1999, Nutiva has followed in the footsteps of Patagonia and Working Assets, which donate 1 percent of sales to nonprofit groups. Nutiva’s goal in 2010 is to donate $125,000. Roulac said that the company is proud to support the following sustainable-agriculture projects:

Eco Farm’s 30th Annual Conference, held at Asilomar, California  Common Vision’s California School Fruit Tree Planting  The Cornucopia Institute (“watch dogs” to protect organic integrity)  Coconut Coops, supporting small Philippines-based coconut growers with organic farm training, small-scale bio-fertilizer plants, planting 100,000 coconut palms, and building a value-added coconut candy kitchen. •

A Healthy Planet

Nutiva helps reduce packaging waste with bulk sizes of its Coconut Oil in 54-oz and 1-gallon pails, as well as 3-pound bags of Hempseed and Protein. The firm’s products are free of the hexane commonly used to process soy foods and fish oils. Over 98 percent of Nutiva foods are certified-organic—safer for consumers and the planet. Organic farming cuts the use of agro-chemicals, protects farm workers, eliminates water pollution, and maintains soil fertility naturally. Nutiva is preparing to plant 100,000 coconuts in its supplier regions: Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Mexico. Growing more coconut palms helps reduce carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and all coconut by-products (shells, husks, and seedcake) have beneficial uses. Hemp is an excellent sustainable rotation crop that improves the soil and out-competes weeds in the field. Its strong stalks are made into energy-efficient building materials known as “hempcrete,” and the use of hemp fiber in bio-composites is increasing.

About Nutiva

Nutiva is dedicated to a healthy and sustainable world, demonstrating its mission to nourish people and planet by using nourishing organic ingredients, enriching the soil, and supporting worthy causes. Founded in 1999, Nutiva is the world’s best-selling brand of nutritious organic hemp foods and extra-virgin coconut oil. Its products are offered nationwide, as well as in Canada, Mexico, and the U. K., at more than 6,000 natural food retailers. Follow the company at http://www. facebook. com/Nutiva.

Essi Systems Resiliency Map Helps Employers Build Strong and Healthy Workforces

Essi Systems Resiliency Map Helps Employers Build Strong and Healthy Workforces

Resiliency Map moves beyond stress and burnout to help employees understand their resiliency levels and targets areas for improvement. It is a comprehensive self-scoring resiliency assessment that measures resiliency factors on 21 scales; pinpoints strengths and vulnerabilities; and bolsters a "take charge" attitude that leads to better health and improved performance.

San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) May 5, 2009

Essi Systems®, Inc., the expert in stress research and assessment services and solutions, introduced Resiliency Map® to help employees explore their resiliency demands, assets and current levels of functioning, and chart new strategies to improve personal health and overall performance.

"There's a growing epidemic of distressed employees in companies of all sizes and industries," said Resiliency Map author and Essi Systems CEO Esther M. Orioli. "In today's economy, businesses expect employees to do more with fewer resources. The pace, the pressures and the stress are having an impact on their ability to regenerate and grow. As a result, employees are suffering and companies are faltering.

"People need to develop skills that enhance the body's inherent ability to heal and regenerate after setbacks and failures to stay physically healthy, mentally strong, and lead productive lives in the workplace and at home."

According to Essi research, resiliency is the ability to rebound after disappointment or setbacks, be adaptable and flexible, and incorporate life experiences into new ways of thinking, feeling and acting. Each person's resiliency depends on several factors including the number and types of changes or demands a body must manage at one time; the attitudes and general beliefs about the world; and the skills learned and mastered for dealing with the environments.

Resiliency Map

Resiliency Map moves beyond stress and burnout to help employees understand their resiliency levels and targets areas for improvement. It is a comprehensive self-scoring resiliency assessment that measures resiliency factors on 21 scales; pinpoints strengths and vulnerabilities; and bolsters a "take charge" attitude that leads to better health and improved performance. Resiliency Map is extensively researched, norm tested and statistically reliable. It is confidential and secure - and a cost-effective way to reach every employee in an organization.

Resiliency Map includes a comprehensive questionnaire, scoring grid and interpretation guide. It is easy to use, confidential, and can be completed in less than an hour. Resiliency Map visually maps personal patterns, automatically ranks performance, and plots scores so progress can be measured over time.

"Constant and relentless pressures can wear us down, burn us or, or hurt us physically and mentally," said Ms. Orioli. "However, once we learn to use it, our resilient natures can buoy us during setbacks or times of difficulty, and bring us health and personal vitality throughout our lives."

Resiliency Map can be purchased directly on Essi Systems' website. For more information on Essi's products and services, contact Essi at essi@essisystems. com or call (415) 252-8224.

POKO Partners Selects DensArmor Plus™ Drywall by Georgia-Pacific for Two Major Building Projects

POKO Partners Selects DensArmor Plus™ Drywall by Georgia-Pacific for Two Major Building Projects

Real estate development and management company, POKO Partners, will be the first company to build an affordable housing project in both New York City and Connecticut with DensArmor Plus™ by Georgia-Pacific. POKO selected the revolutionary new drywall product because of its resistance to moisture and mold growth behind walls and ceilings.

Port Chester, NY (PRWEB) August 18, 2006 -–

Real estate development and management company, POKO Partners, is the first company to build an affordable housing project in both New York City and Connecticut with DensArmor Plus™ by Georgia-Pacific. POKO Partners selected this paperless drywall based on its resistance to moisture and mold growth behind walls and ceilings.

“POKO chose Georgia-Pacific’s DensArmor Plus to help prevent mold and moisture related problems. While it’s an additional investment, the product is good for our tenants because it’s smart business,” stated Kenneth Olson, President of POKO Partners. “No one wants mold in a building. There is also a potential health and operating savings related to the use of a product that manages moisture so well.”

DensArmor Plus offers significant advantages compared to traditional drywall. The paperless drywall incorporates glass mats on the surfaces of the board instead of the paper found on traditional drywall. Substitution of glass-mat facings for paper facings removes a potential food source for mold. Since approximately 70% of the interior surfaces of an average home are comprised of drywall, building with DensArmor Plus is a sound decision that can help protect a home’s interior wall surfaces from the negative effects of incidental moisture and the potential for mold development.

Cassiopeia Apartments – New York, NY

POKO’s Cassiopeia Apartments on 250 West 116th Street in Harlem are currently under construction, using DensArmor Plus drywall by Georgia-Pacific. POKO Partners assembled the vacant properties at 246-250 West 116th Street in partnership with NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development to build the affordable housing project. POKO worked with the community and the City to develop a plan that was endorsed by the community board, the Borough President, the Department of City Planning and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. The project will include 32 units of affordable, mixed-income housing and 2,000 square feet of ground floor retail. Project financing is being provided by the NYC Housing Development Corporation, Bank of America, and First Sterling Financial Corporation with the support of NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal and NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

“As a leader in community development, Bank of America is committed to neighborhood development in Harlem,” said Brian Tracey, Bank of America Community Development market executive, Atlantic region. “POKO's project will help to revitalize the area and encourage economic development and growth.”

Thread Mill - Stonington, CT

The much anticipated $15-million revitalization of the former William Clarke Thread Mill in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington, CT, is currently in the closing process. Once construction begins, the process is expected to take 15 to 18 months. POKO Partners will use the mold-resistant Georgia-Pacific product, DensArmor Plus drywall. POKO will turn the old mill into 57 condominium units and 8,200 square feet of retail space. The Thread Mill project is considered an integral part in the rejuvenation of the Pawcatuck section of Stonington. POKO Partners pioneered the adoption of the town’s Industrial Heritage Re-use District in August 2004. The concept is to open up redevelopment options town-wide, while respecting and preserving the historic fabric of the community’s industrial past. This adaptive re-use of old manufacturing complexes has been a growing trend in New England, and revitalizing these old buildings preserves the history while also preventing the vacant structures from becoming fire hazards. Tax revenue is estimated to increase by at least 500% from what is currently generated by the mill.

“The potential revitalization that POKO Partners has planned for this neighborhood with the redevelopment of the Thread Mill is very exciting,” Tracey said.

About POKO

POKO Partners LLC has over 15 years of experience in rehabilitating residential complexes and new construction. Since its inception, POKO has become actively engaged in the management and development of real estate in the tri-state area and beyond. A very hands-on developer, POKO gets involved in everything from the project conceptualization to its construction. Revitalizing underutilized and outdated buildings requires the utmost care. POKO is dedicated to preserving the historical aspects of structures, and restoring buildings to their original vitality and grandeur. Adaptive re-use projects are an integral part of growing communities, as they can increase property values of surrounding neighborhoods, provide additional retail and residential space, and rejuvenate the community spirit by improving the general appearance of a neighborhood’s buildings and landscape. VRI and Robert Bosch Healthcare Partner to Expand Telehealth Access

VRI and Robert Bosch Healthcare Partner to Expand Telehealth Access

VRI and Robert Bosch Healthcare, Inc. to extend access to telehealth technology to help treat patients with chronic illnesses.

Dayton, OH (PRWEB) November 10, 2010

VRI, one of the largest providers of in-home health monitoring solutions in the United States, announced today a new partnership with Robert Bosch Healthcare, Inc., a leader in the telehealth industry. Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly offer customers access to VRI’s remote monitoring, equipment logistics, adherence, and alert stratification services along with Bosch Healthcare’s telehealth systems, including the Bosch Health Buddy® Telehealth System. The partnership will extend access to healthcare technology that empowers patients to be more involved in their care and enables providers to better monitor and treat patients living with complex chronic disease.

“The use of telehealth in America’s health care system continues to increase, and there is a growing body of evidence that supports the use of technologies like the Health Buddy System, allowing patients to take a more active role in their disease management,” said Derek Newell, president of Robert Bosch Healthcare. “By leveraging VRI’s extensive experience, installer network, and monitoring center capabilities, we will be able to extend the reach of Bosch Healthcare’s telehealth solutions to more patients and further our mission of transforming the current system of care.”

Bosch Healthcare and VRI’s joint services are designed to increase patients’ health awareness and accountability by giving them access to information and feedback that allows them to play a more active role in their care. Specifically, the Health Buddy system will be integrated with VRI’s feature rich remote monitoring platform that serves as a daily interface between individuals with chronic illnesses, care coordinators and healthcare providers. As care providers access user data via VRI’s Care Platform, they are alerted to warning signs if a user’s health is deteriorating and can actively address gaps in care before that individual’s condition becomes critical.

“Bosch Healthcare shares our dedication to providing high-quality care to people living with severe and complex chronic diseases,” said Andy Schoonover, CEO of VRI. “We have heard our Managed Care, Home Health, and Hospital partners loud and clear. They have asked for a fully integrated system where they are relieved of the burden to install, finance, and provide the alert stratification required for effective deployment of telehealth solutions. We are proud to add the Health Buddy system to our portfolio of integrated devices and are excited to partner with Bosch Healthcare to provide telehealth solutions to patients that will benefit most from these services.”

UMass Memorial and Brain Saving Technologies Bring Stroke Care to Local Hospitals -- Patients Now Able to Receive Care Close to Home

UMass Memorial and Brain Saving Technologies Bring Stroke Care to Local Hospitals -- Patients Now Able to Receive Care Close to Home

A collaborative effort among UMass Memorial Medical Center, Brain Saving Technologies (BST) of Wellesley Hills and five community hospitals is bringing the highest level of stroke care to emergency room patients without them having to travel far from home.

WORCESTER, MA (PRWEB) November 21, 2005

A collaborative effort among UMass Memorial Medical Center, Brain Saving Technologies (BST) of Wellesley Hills and five community hospitals is bringing the highest level of stroke care to emergency room patients without them having to travel far from home.

Wing Memorial Hospital (Palmer, MA), Heywood Hospital (Gardner, MA), Clinton Hospital (Clinton, MA), Health Alliance Hospital (Leominster, MA), and Athol Memorial Hospital (Athol, MA) are now designated as Primary Stroke Services Centers by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This designation is made possible by the sharing of physicians and technology via an advanced digital video medicine service provided by BST.

“These community hospitals have recognized the incredible need within their communities for fast, effective treatment of stroke,” stated Dr. Colin T. McDonald, founder, chief executive officer and chief medical officer of BST. “The addition of this advanced technology and 24/7 real-time access to neuro critical care specialists provides this network of community hospitals with the resources to meet the state’s recently enacted Primary Stroke Service criteria.”

“Without this service, ambulances and patients with any stroke symptom have to travel farther distances for care,” says Marc Fisher, MD, director of the UMass Memorial Stroke Program. “We will be able to provide rapid, effective treatment of stroke patients and help address the shortage of neuro critical care experts.”

The video monitoring system, also called a telemedicine system, enables on-call neurologists with expertise in stroke diagnosis and management at UMass Memorial and BST to examine and talk to an emergency patient or his/her family as well as the doctor in real time at the community hospital. A mobile unit in the community hospital’s emergency department is wheeled bedside so that the doctors can see the patient and make a diagnosis.

Both the emergency room physician and neurologist also can view CT scans, enabling them to work collaboratively throughout the patient care process. Once a diagnosis is made, the doctors decide on the most effective treatment plan hoping to lessen the symptoms and outcomes of the stroke, quickly. UMass Memorial doctors assist in assessment, diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. In 2005, Americans will pay about $57 billion for stroke-related medical costs and disability. It is a leading cause of severe, long-term disability.

About UMass Memorial

UMass Memorial Health Care is the largest not-for-profit health care system in Central Massachusetts with 1,500 physicians and more than 12,000 employees.

Our comprehensive network of care includes teaching hospitals, affiliated community hospitals, outpatient clinics, community-based physician practices, long-term care facilities, and home health, hospice, rehabilitation and mental health services. UMass Memorial is dedicated to promoting health and wellness in the community, and is proud to be the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Lambda Legal Files Discrimination Complaint on Behalf of Second Man Denied Foreign Service Job by U. S. State Department Because He Has HIV

Lambda Legal Files Discrimination Complaint on Behalf of Second Man Denied Foreign Service Job by U. S. State Department Because He Has HIV

Following lawsuit filed last month, Lambda Legal files complaint on behalf of another qualified applicant who was rejected unlawfully

(PRWEB) October 31, 2003

Washington, D. C.(PRWEB), October 29, 2003 — Lambda Legal today filed a discrimination complaint on behalf of a second applicant who was rejected for a Foreign Service job by the U. S. State Department because he has HIV. The State Department is due to respond next week to a federal lawsuit Lambda Legal filed in early September on behalf of another applicant challenging the government’s policy of prohibiting anyone with HIV from being hired as a Foreign Service officer, regardless of the applicant’s qualifications or health status.

“The State Department is preventing qualified, healthy people from serving their country – all while there’s a severe shortage of Foreign Service applicants who are badly needed right now,” said Jonathan Givner, AIDS Project Staff Attorney for Lambda Legal in its New York City headquarters. “This isn’t just bad policy – it’s illegal.”

In todayÂ’s filing, Lambda Legal represents Kyle Smith, a college student in Columbus, Ohio, who applied to be a Foreign Service Office Management Specialist. After successfully completing the interview process, the 34-year-old applicant was approved for employment pending medical approval. After SmithÂ’s doctor disclosed that Smith is HIV positive, the Foreign Service informed him that he did not qualify for medical clearance and wouldnÂ’t be considered for employment.

Smith has been living with HIV for seven years, never experiencing any long-term illnesses or opportunistic infections. His T-cell count is on the level that rivals most HIV-negative individuals. Smith’s own doctor has said, “he is in excellent care and excellent health.”

“Kyle Smith wants to serve his country and work overseas. He can do this job and do it well. But because he has HIV, none of that matters to the State Department,” Givner said.

On September 3, Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit in federal court on behalf Lorenzo Taylor, a 47-year-old federal government employee who was denied a position as a Foreign Service officer because he has HIV. Taylor, who holds a Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University, easily passed the tough written and oral exams required to be a Foreign Service officer. He also is fluent in three languages. The State Department must file its reply to Lambda LegalÂ’s complaint on behalf of Taylor next week.

In todayÂ’s administrative complaint and last monthÂ’s lawsuit, Lambda Legal charges that the State Department is in violation of the federal Rehabilitation Act, which prohibits the federal government from discriminating against people with disabilities.

More than 10,000 Americans work in the Foreign Service, assigned by the State Department to serve in embassies, consulates and other diplomatic posts in 180 countries. The State Department prohibits the Foreign Service from hiring people with HIV in these positions, claiming that they may require medical treatment that isnÂ’t available in some of the less-developed countries where they might be stationed. According to Lambda Legal, applicants should be assessed case-by-case to determine their individual medical status. Other than the military, the Foreign Service is the only type of federal employment where people with HIV are broadly blocked from consideration.

“I have been living with HIV, but it hasn’t stopped me from learning and living,” Smith said. “I’ve always been interested in learning as much as I can. When I thought I could work in the Foreign Service, I realized that the world could be my classroom.”

Just over a year ago, Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke passionately about the need for employers to stop discrimination against people with HIV and AIDS. “Corporate leaders can see to it that their managers implement fair employment practices to ensure there is no discrimination related to a person’s HIV status – no stigmatization. They are just like anyone else. This is one of those lessons we have to get to all employers and nations around the world…[U]nder President Bush’s leadership, this government will commit all of its resources, all of its energy, all of its leadership ability, to playing its part,” Powell said at an Open Forum Conference in Washington, D. C., in June 2002.

“The Secretary of State recognizes that HIV discrimination in the workplace is a problem around the country and the world, and these two cases show that it’s a growing problem in his own workplace,” Givner said. “And Secretary Powell is in a unique position to make real change occur. With one stroke of his pen, he can end HIV discrimination in the Foreign Service, bring the government into compliance with the law and follow through on his own promise of fairness.”

Since Foreign Service workers who test positive for HIV while they’re already employed are allowed to keep their jobs, Lambda Legal said the State Department clearly is equipped to address employees’ medical needs on a case-by-case basis. “There are people with HIV who are serving their country honorably and without any added hardship because of their medical status,” Givner said. “All we’re asking is that Kyle, Lorenzo and other applicants be judged as individuals and treated fairly.”

Lambda LegalÂ’s AIDS Project has handled a number of cases on behalf of people who are denied employment because they have HIV or AIDS. In recent years, Lambda Legal has successfully fought on behalf of people with HIV or AIDS whose rights under state and federal disability discrimination laws were violated by employers, businesses and public accommodations.

Givner is Lambda LegalÂ’s lead attorney for Matter of Kyle Smith. The administrative complaint was filed with the State DepartmentÂ’s Office of Civil Rights.

MDM Group Reports Progress of Substance Abuse Testing License

MDM Group Reports Progress of Substance Abuse Testing License

MDM Group, Inc. (OTC. PK: MDDM) advises that Harrington Group Limited (HGR. AX) (OTC. PK: HGRLF) has through a release to the Australian Stock Exchange advised of its intention to proceed with the licensing of a patent protected Substance Abuse Testing (SAT) technology from MDM Group.

Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) May 26, 2005

MDM Group, Inc. (OTC. PK: MDDM) advises that Harrington Group Limited (HGR. AX) (OTC. PK: HGRLF) has through a release to the Australian Stock Exchange advised of its intention to proceed with the licensing of a patent protected Substance Abuse Testing (SAT) technology from MDM Group.

The fully developed and market-ready SAT technology incorporates the latest in oral fluid (saliva) diagnostics that allows immediate simultaneous testing for up to any of six illicit drugs including: cocaine, cannabis, amphetamines, speed, PCP and opiates.

The SAT System includes split sample test units, on-the-spot hand-held testing, wireless report printing units through a system that is more efficient, quicker (on-the-spot) and far less invasive than urine testing.

Harrington CEO Marshall Couper said: "Certain patent protected aspects of the SAT System are currently not available anywhere in the world and are particularly important to the global law enforcement industry, as it provides the only available totally portable handheld system that enables law enforcement officers to conduct on-the-spot drug testing anywhere at any time with instant recording, wireless printing capability and integrity in protection of evidence."

The SAT technology is unique and complementary to the law enforcement sector, which is Harrington's main focus, and it offers the opportunity for revenue generation in the forthcoming financial year. The core products of this system are the VerOFy(TM) I/II Rapid Test Platform and fluid collection system and the Sali-Chek(TM) wireless reader. Information regarding the specific SAT technologies can be accessed at: www. bamburghmarrsh. com

The Harrington Board unanimously agreed to proceed with this opportunity subject to completion of satisfactory due diligence, formal documentation and shareholder approval.

The terms of the Licence Agreement offered requires Harrington to commit to minimum annual gross expenditure of US$1.2 million, for the first two years, for costs, operational, development and marketing expenditure, together with an ongoing royalty payment of 7% of gross worldwide sales. This expenditure will be funded out of existing Harrington reserves in addition to revenues expected to be generated through the proposed licensed operations.

Harrington has further agreed to provide interim loan funding to the SAT operational, development and marketing costs, which will be repayable if Harrington shareholders do not approve the licensing arrangements at the proposed shareholders meeting.

Harrington will be appointing Mr. Richard Herrig, a co-developer of the SAT technology, as Chief Executive Officer of the SAT Division, and Mr. Michael Beaubien as Chief Operations Officer of the SAT Division. Both have extensive experience within the industry and are already involved in current and ongoing discussion with government agencies, law enforcement agencies and other industries with regard to sales of the SAT systems.

The SAT business will not detract from Harrington's ongoing focus and commitment to the ShockRounds(TM) technology development and commercialisation programme. Harrington advises that the synergies arising from both ShockRounds(TM) and the SAT technology sharing the same law enforcement sector focus are in fact a significant benefit.

The SAT Licence also covers applications such as employment drug screening, which in many business sectors in Australia and globally such as the resources sector are becoming compulsory, as well as expanding use within sports and in accident and emergency departments. Harrington's exclusive international right to exploit the opportunities across these broad areas of application is expected to enable it to achieve substantial revenues.

A detailed information memorandum, including an independent expert's report, together with the notice of meeting to approve the transaction is being prepared and will be forwarded to Harrington shareholders.

Market for Compulsory Drug Testing

It is readily accepted that drug abuse is a major problem in many sectors of society. Some concept of the size of the problem and therefore the opportunity for the application of the SAT technology can be gained from a review of some published U. S. statistics:

According to the U. S. Department of Labor and other references: use of illicit drugs within the workplace costs industry in the U. S. $75 - $100 billion annually; 65% of all accidents on the job are alcohol or drug related; substance abusers utilize 16 times as many health care benefits and are 6 times more likely to file workers' compensation claims; health benefit utilization in dollar terms are 84% higher; substance abusers record 16 times more work absences; 17% of all U. S. workers regularly use substances of abuse; one company alone, General Motors has stated that employee drug abuse costs them US$1 billion per year.

In the U. S. today, almost all Fortune 200 companies have mandatory employee drug screening programs, as do all industries that are regulated by the U. S. Federal Government. Australia is following the U. S. trend, and many other countries and global industries are rapidly putting drug screening policies and requirements in place.

It is recognized that drugs in the workplace are of major concern, with abusers placing not only themselves but others at risk. This significant issue then extends to the law enforcement sector and the increasing emphasis on the ability to effectively administer random testing of drivers and suspected abusers.

Harrington believes that this elegant system represents a huge market opportunity by providing a less invasive testing solution that offers on-the-spot analysis. Due to this system's ease of use, portability and cost effectiveness, many industries and government agencies stand to benefit in their efforts to combat this pervasive problem.

Cookie Diet Creator Dr. Sanford Siegal Weighs In on "CR" Calorie Restriction Diet Debate

Cookie Diet Creator Dr. Sanford Siegal Weighs In on "CR" Calorie Restriction Diet Debate

Recent New York Times, New York Magazine and NBC Today Show reports tout benefits of very low calorie diets.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) November 9, 2006

Renowned physician, author and obesity expert Dr. Sanford Siegal (http://www. drsiegal. com), medical director of Miami, Florida-based Siegal Medical Weight Management (http://www. drsiegal. com), today added his voice to the chorus of other doctors and scientists who are touting the health benefits of extremely calorie restricted or "CR" diets.

"I realized decades ago that a very low calorie diet is the most effective way to lose weight," said Dr. Siegal. "Unfortunately, most people can't tolerate the extreme hunger that they experience on such a diet. That's why, in 1975, I created the hunger-suppressing Dr. Siegal's® Cookie that we use in our Cookie Diet (http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Cookie_diet)™. Our cookie effectively controls our patients' hunger so that they can stick to the 800 calorie-a-day diet that we prescribe."

Dr. Siegal and his Cookie Diet™ have been featured in reports in myriad media outlets including ABC's Good Morning America, Woman's World, Health and The New York Post. In one of his early books, Dr. Siegal advocated an extremely calorie-restricted diet and discussed the considerable success that he had controlling his patients' hunger on an 800 calorie diet.

According to Dr. Siegal, more than 500,000 overweight patients have been treated with his Cookie Diet ™ during the past 31 years. The diet includes one 300 calorie dinner supplemented with six Dr. Siegal's® cookies per day for hunger control for a total of just 800 calories per day. The typical compliant patient loses about 15 lbs. per month, the maximum rate at which Dr. Siegal feels one can lose fat.

"I'm delighted that the medical establishment is finally realizing what I've observed while treating hundreds of thousands of overweight patients," added Dr. Siegal. "Obesity kills, and the recent reports in The New York Times and New York magazine, and on the Today show, acknowledge that calorie-restricted diets not only cause weight loss but may extend life."

The New York Times article (http://www. nytimes. com/2006/10/31/health/nutrition/31agin. html? ei=5070&en=129357e368f88d37&ex=1163134800&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1162992183-SUj7VMXlQyOArbr+OB3XTg) adds support to the contention that very low calorie diets result in extension of life. The article reveals almost incontrovertible evidence that this is true in animals, and quite possibly could extend to humans. Many people are aware of this concept, and indeed, a recent New York magazine article (http://nymag. com/news/features/23169/index. html) chronicles the day-to-day efforts of groups of people in New York who adhere to such a regime. Severe calorie restriction, now dubbed "CR" for Calorie Restriction, has become a way of life for many people, even those who are not overweight.

The Cookie Diet™ and Dr. Siegal's® hunger-controlling cookies, shakes and soups are currently available only to patients of Dr. Siegal's medical practice, Siegal Medical Weight Management, located in South Florida. However, they will be widely available from physicians throughout North America beginning next month.

EyeCare America Offers No-Cost Medical Eye Care to Qualified Seniors In Support of National AMD Month - March 2009

EyeCare America Offers No-Cost Medical Eye Care to Qualified Seniors In Support of National AMD Month - March 2009

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people 65 years or older in the United States. According to the National Eye Institute, AMD affects more than 10 million Americans.

(Vocus) March 2, 2009

San Francisco, CA -- Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people 65 years or older in the United States. According to the National Eye Institute, AMD affects more than 10 million Americans. Macular degeneration refers to the breakdown of the macula of the eye, where our sharpest central vision occurs. A person with macular degeneration may be able to see a clock on a wall, but not see the numbers, or walk into a room without bumping into furniture. Words may look blurred and straight lines may appear crooked.

As our population ages, and the "baby boomers" advance into their 60's and 70's, we will see a virtual epidemic of AMD. In fact, according to the National Eye Institute, it is estimated that Americans with moderate to severe AMD will reach 17 million by the year 2020.

In support of National AMD Month this March 2009, EyeCare America encourages all seniors to see if they qualify for an eye exam at no out-of-pocket cost available through its AMD EyeCare Program by calling 1-866-324-EYES (3937). Recent studies also show that eating foods rich in antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin, omega-3 fatty acids, beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc, may reduce the risk of AMD, or slow its progression in some people. In light of this, EyeCare America has developed a cookbook called Feast Your Eyes on This! which includes eye healthy recipes from celebrity chefs from across the United States. The complete cookbook is available for free online at www. eyecareamerica. org.

"Blindness and vision impairment have enormous personal, social and economic costs, limiting the activities of otherwise healthy and active people," said William Tasman, MD, Chair of EyeCare America's AMD EyeCare Program. "EyeCare America bridges the gap between the senior community and the quality eye care they need. By increasing awareness of eye diseases such as AMD and its risk factors, and connecting more people with exams and care, EyeCare America works to reduce preventable blindness in the U. S. thereby enabling older Americans to see clearly into the future, and and maintain maximum independence."

EyeCare America's AMD EyeCare Program is a year-round program that promotes annual eye exams for people 65 and older, raises awareness of AMD, provides the latest information about treatment options and low vision services, offers free AMD educational materials, and facilitates access to care at no out-of-pocket cost for those who qualify. The eye exams are provided by more than 7,000 dedicated volunteer ophthalmologists across the U. S. People may call the toll-free helpline at 1-866-324-EYES (3937), anytime, for themselves, family members and/or friends to see if they qualify to be referred to one of our volunteer ophthalmologists, or to request free AMD educational material.

Callers who have not seen an ophthalmologist in three or more years may be eligible to receive a comprehensive medical eye exam and, in most cases, up to one year of care at no out-of-pocket cost for any disease diagnosed during the initial exam.

The AMD EyeCare Program is designed for people at increased risk for AMD, but who have NOT been diagnosed and who:

Are age 65 and older  Are US citizens or legal residents  Have not seen an ophthalmologist in three or more years  Do not belong to an HMO or the VA Eyeglasses, medicines, hospital services and fees of other medical professionals are not included.

About EyeCare America

Established in 1985, EyeCare America, the public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is committed to the preservation of sight, accomplishing its mission through public service and education. EyeCare America provides eye care services to the medically underserved and for those at increased risk for eye disease through its corps of 7,000 volunteer ophthalmologists dedicated to serving their communities. More than 90 percent of the care made available is provided at no out-of-pocket cost to the patients. Just In Time for National Emergency Medical Services Week iPhone Application Assists First Responders and Emergency Personnel

Just In Time for National Emergency Medical Services Week iPhone Application Assists First Responders and Emergency Personnel

Emergency Room Physician confirms new iPhone application will be an important tool

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2009

National Emergency Medical Services Week is May 17-23rd, a fitting time to introduce an iPhone application that can assist emergency personnel. In an emergency, first responders know to look for the "in case of emergency" contact (ICE) on a cell phone. MyMedID takes that one-step further by allowing first responders and emergency rooms to access critical medical information. Available as an iPhone application download from the Apple iPhone "app store", the icon appears on the iPhone and is available for first responders and emergency personnel.

MyMedID is easy to use for even the novice iPhone owner. Input illnesses, medications, allergies, ICE, preferred hospital, physician's phone numbers, and blood type. It can help to eliminate confusion and drug interactions during medical emergencies. In a non-emergency MyMedID makes it easier to access all pertinent information while at doctor's office or pharmacy.

"I came up with the idea while I was sitting at the table with my three young children," Said Heidi Heller Niehart. "I have a chronic illness and it's always in the back of my mind if something should happen. My children know how to call 911 but there is no way they would know what medications I was taking, how much or what drug or other allergies I have. I hope that I never need to access this information but it's worth the price of a cup of coffee for me to have peace of mind."

The Journal of the American Medical Association states that the number of deaths in U. S. hospitals that are reportedly due to medical errors is disturbingly high. A recent Institute of Medicine report quoted rates estimating that medical errors kill between 44,000 and 98,000 people a year in U. S. hospitals. An average of 195,000 people in the U. S. died due to potentially preventable, in-hospital medical errors according to HealthGrades. The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research reports that there are over 2-million serious adverse drug interactions yearly and over 100,000 deaths. Drug interactions are the 4th leading cause of death.

"My Med ID will be a very important tool for first responders and emergency department personnel", said Paulo Berger, MD, a San Diego based Emergency Physician. "First responders will have access to the patient's important medical information in a clear and organized format."

All appropriate agencies are aware of the universal symbol used by MyMedID and know to check cell phones for pertinent information. This includes Highway Patrol Agencies, Police Departments, Fire Departments, Hospital Emergency Rooms and Trauma Centers.

MyMedID was designed by Imadjine and can be downloaded at the Apple iPhone app store at http://itunes. apple. com/WebObjects/MZStore. woa/wa/viewSoftware? id=316190717&mt=8 (http://itunes. apple. com/WebObjects/MZStore. woa/wa/viewSoftware? id=316190717&mt=8) for $.99. You can also visit our website at www. mymedidapp. com for more information on how to use the application and for a direct link to the app store. For more on National Emergency Medical Services Week (EMS) visit http://www. acep. org/practres. aspx? id=30212 (http://www. acep. org/practres. aspx? id=30212)
